Brandon Jackson is not, and won't be a feature back in the NFL.

Quote from McCarthy:

"There is time and time again that you just need to get out there and run it, run it ugly, run it hard, run at them, and we could probably do a little more of that," McCarthy acknowledged. "That's something we could probably do a better job of."

The problem with this is that the run isn't working. We're getting stuffed for short yardages, even though McCarthy wants to be a run first team. He needs to know when to pick his runs and I don't think this kind of inflexibility will improve our run game. Bring in Johnson and see how much of a hole he can open up. I don't give a toss if we give up an average 5 more yards on ST, if it means we establish a formidable run which opens up the passing, eats up the clock and takes pressure off the defense.

i feel like the play calling isn't grant's best friend.

McCarthy has zero patience as a playcaller. He bails on the run way to soon. Anyone can see it.

Another knock I have against him is he's way to predictable at times. If the run does work he'll run it four or five times in a row. He needs to be balanced and mix it up. Pass, Run, Run, Pass, Pass, Run. Pass, Run or something to that extent.

20+ carries twice for Grant this year and both of them were in 20 plus point victories.

I'm not giving up on Grant yet but he really should be doing more with the carries he gets with the passing game this team has. I'm starting to think we just need a bigger guy that can just plow some defenders and wear them down regardless of blocking instead of just a quick guy. A big slow running back would probably have at least the same average as Grant does now.

Grant would be a good running back for a team that will give him 20 touches a game or more.

A RB in McCarthy's scheme needs to be one of those rare guys who can get 10-15 touches and average 10+ yards a touch. Problem is there's not many of those backs out there.

My problem with Grant has to do with yards after contact, in which he must be the worst in the league. He goes down too easily for a north - south runner. I know we will never get the exciting reverse the field runs from him, but dammit, break some tackles once in a while, Ryan.

With his leaning forward style that will never happen unless it is a collision and he stays up. He goes down with arm tackles because his body is to far in front of his legs. Slow the legs down a little and there is nothing left to hold up the torso. Would like to see somebody other than Grant running, but until we get somebody he will have to do.

To get him going, he has to have a hole to get going.

With 19 carries or more, the Packers are 9 wins and 4 losses.

More carries = more likely to win.

Time to run the ball more. It gives the OL a chance to smack around, instead of being smacked around and the DL won't be able to tee-off on us in the later portions of the game.

If people dont know this about me ... I dont like grant. Dont like how he runs and dont think he should be our #1 back with 95% of the carries.

Now that out of the way ... since he is our #1 back and since Mike McCarthy gives him 95% of the carries. Even with a suffering Oline ... Mike McCarthy needs ... NEEDS to do runs to the outside. 50% of our runs should be to the outside IMO. I really dont want to see grant run (if you call it running ... more like bumping into bodies) up the middle and getting -1-3 yards.

For jacksons first game back we saw him run 2x ... oh whoopie do. The guy with the most yards per carry last season ran 2x.

I say get a different back on the team and/or start calling better running plays.

I agree with you about Grant. I also think the 20+ carries a win stat is pretty bloated because once you're winning you just hand off the ball at the end of the game to run clock, so of course you're going to have more carries. Also I think the fact that B-Jack fumbled on one of his carries prevented him from getting more, plus it was his first game back from injury. I still wish they would have kept Sutton though...
