people on here must not realize he was a very good friend with Henry and his family so did you ever think he talked to the family about it already?

Chad is doing what we all think about the NFL and thats make a joke of some of the rules.

here is an example on how much of an asshole the nfl has become. This was from the sean taylor death. btw is Clark doing it for his ego ?

Steelers safety Ryan Clark was fined $5,000 by the NFL for wearing eye black with the No. 21 etched into it. Clark said he did it to honor his late Redskins teammate Sean Taylor, who was murdered in his Florida home last year. Is the NFL overstepping its bounds with unnecessary fines

Here is the link and maybe people should read the posters comments

I don't see the big deal. If its only one game. If I was Chris Henry's family, I would love to see Chad score a touchdown while wearing Chris Henry's jersey. To me it would mean a lot more than just a patch. But that is only my opinion.

Am I the only one who sees the humor in dhazer defending Chad Johnson against charges of ego?

Odd how you're willing to lodge charges of egotism against a man who does nothing but shrink away from attention, while you defend against those same charges a man who loves to draw attention to himself. You are an odd duck, Dave.

Not really. I got that when he defended Matt Cassel while scolding Aaron Rodgers.

But Dave, first of all, no one mentioned that he's doing this for the money, so your shopping sprees and what not only confirm that he loves the publicity, more so than anything else.

No one has a problem with his intentions, it's only that his ways are wrong. And it's not too weird to think that he might have some selfish reasons behind it.

The NFL will allow some patches. I asume the NFL will allow some kind of tribute, as well. Something at half time, for instance. With a bit of communication between the NFLPA and the NFL, I'm sure that he's allowed to do something himself in the end zone.

I'm pretty sure that they allow a hand on your heart and a kis upstairs. It's the classy thing to do. Like everyone does, really.

That the NFLPA supports this is just ridiculous.

I'm confident the words would be different if it was someone other than Chad doing this.

I think it'd be neat to see him don the 15, but I think donning the 15 in practice would sufficiently suffice. If he obtained permission from the NFL before making this public, it'd be different. But saying he was going to do it, knowing it's against the rules, well, it gives the idiots reason to come out in flocks and discredit his motive.

The number on a jersey is pretty huge. Chad is a very creative guy, hopefully he finds a less severe method of honoring his fallen friend, regardless of how that friend passed.

the thing is why the reason for fining people for paying respect to a fellow player, what does it actually hurt? i mean since hitler took over as commish the nfl is going down hill imo. fining clark 5 grand for wearing eye tape with taylors number on it, fining a guy for celebrating on the sideline where in the rule book says you can.

i wonder if godell and Ted Thompson are related because both love the power.

I believe the reason is to set a precedent that you must follow the rules, regardless of the circumstances. Reason for that is because if they bend the rule for this or for that, it could open up a lot of issues in the future. Just like if you let one kid break a small rule for a good reason, other kids will want to break the rule for what they feel is a good reason.

I understand (I think) them, I just don't agree with them.

Yea, the main thing is to not make a spectacle out of it. Hey, if the NFL says go ahead Chad, do whatever you like, wear a pink jersey, wear no jersey, go out there naked, whatever. If they give him the ok, go right ahead. But there is a time and place to stand up or make a statement to the nfl on their rules and it's not this week.

Also, can someone clarify for me what Chad wants to do. I'm assuming that he wants to wear the #15 Jersey with Henrys name on it? Or does he want to change his number to #15 for one game and have his own name on it? I'm assuming that there is no rule prohibiting you from changing your jersey number regardless what time of the year it is..........right?

A player who changes there number has to reimburse Reebok a certain amount depending on how 'popular' there jersey was.

Ochocinco doesnt want to be distraction over jersey

Chad Ochocinco doesnt want to be a distraction.

The Bengals wide receiver apparently has reversed course after saying he planned to wear the No. 15 jersey of teammate Chris Henry, who died Thursday, in a game at San Diego.

Ochocinco donned Henrys practice jersey Thursday and had said he wanted to wear his game jersey Sunday against the Chargers. However, the NFL informed the Bengals that Ochocinco wouldnt be able to do so.

While Henrys No. 15 jersey will be on the sideline during the game, it doesnt look like it will be on the field. Ochocinco doesnt believe hell wear the jersey, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com, saying, I dont want to be a distraction.

Earlier Saturday, NFL Players Association assistant executive director for external affairs Geroge Atallah posted a tweet in which he said the union will cover any fine levied against Ochocinco by the league and match it with a gift to our Chris Henry memorial fund. Technically, though, that would be illegal under league rules. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed the league rule that states it is illegal for any entity to pay the fine imposed from a violation of the leagues uniform policy. Such fines are taken directly from a players salary.

Told of the offer by the NFLPA, Ochocinco told Bengals.com that he doesnt want the scenario to be a problem with coach Marvin Lewis.

Im going to work through Marvin on that, Ochocinco said.

For now, thats the latest.

I agree that the NFL uniform regulations are too restrictive. I hate uniformity more than anyone, I'm sure; I was always in trouble in the military for rebelling against it in subtle ways.

But that's just it. If you're going to make the conscious decision to rebel against the rules, you don't have a right to bitch when the hammer comes down.

I'm a big believer in personal liberty. I'm just as big a believer in personal responsibility.

The sport is getting too sensational, sorry. If you want to donate money to the memorial fund, do it but don't make a game out of it. At some point, you have to adhere to the rules of the game and the league. You knew the rules when you signed on, this rule hasn't changed since then. If you don't like it, do something else with your life.

Personally, I think that equipment violations like this should be ejectable in most cases.

The rules are plenty and more than needed. Plummer wasn't allowed to honor Tillman,

Excuse me!! Tilman was a guy who gave up millions of dollars to do something he believed in, while defending our safety and freedom at war and who was needlessly killed by friendly fire. Henry jumped or fell off of a pick up truck. Regardless of the circumstances, plummer didnt make a sideshow out of it and neither should Chad in this instance. Chad is trying to cope with the loss by making a show out of it.

For ONE GAME, why not let him do it? What's the big deal?

"Porforis" wrote:

It's not a big deal unless the nfl is going to fine him which they likely will. The point is that the attention is being taken away from Henry(where it should be) on to Chad(where it should not be). Thats really the only point. The issue of changing your number is a non issue in my opinion.

"Cheesey" wrote:

quite some good arguements here in this thread - I am agreeing with gravedigger - while Ochos action appear to be honerable in the face of a 'tyrant' what is occuring is as GD pointed out is that the attention is being taken away from the person that died and put on ocho and his fight with the NFL which he seems to be doing (almost every week) for what attention?

So who is this about ocho or the guy that died? if its the guy that died then why do something that is going to put the light on you and your fight with the big/bad wolf.

How about ocho or the team do something for henry that doesnt involve a "look at me" or rebellions attitude.

As the bible talks about - "There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven ~

Chad decided against it because he didn't want it to be a distraction and didn't feel this is what Chris would want. But hey, Chad is still a bad guy because he's an easy target for assholes who light there life so tightassed they can't enjoy fun if it sat on their fat prickly face.

LIGHT UP, HAVE SOME FUCKING FUN!
