So this just confirms that the lack of Free Agent signings is 100% Ted's fault.

I've always heard and read that the Packers offer was second highest in yearly average for White's services. And that he came here because of the direction he felt the Packers going and because of our QB who he felt was something special. People make it sound like the Packers offered 17 million for four years and the other teams offered 12 million for 4 years or something. Just not the case.

I think Charles Woodson was our 'Reggie White' signing, at least as close as we'll ever get to it. However, Woodson was not a 'big' name back then so maybe that one doesn't count.

And for those who are knocking Green Bay, the town, fuck off. Green Bay owns the shit out of your town. That's right, my city can beat up YOUR city! Take that, snot nose jealous bitches! 199TH LARGEST CITY REPRESENT BIOTCH!!!

I do agree, we need to pay more, but that's true about every team that's not the Patriots, meaning, a perennial dominant force. And remember, the Patriots weren't always able to lure players in either. They built and built through the draft and by shrewd personnel decisions.

It takes time and patience.

Edit, another beef I have, go figure, theres another one eh? Why is SI carrying this kind of a poll? What good does it do? It gives off a negative image of a handful of teams. What's there to gain? I think it was bullshit of SI to do this and it shows how lame they are in their own creative department for new material.

Keep in mind in order to land White they had to pay him huge unheard of money.

It was well worth it. Like you said that led to landing other quality players (at reasonable prices)
Sometimes you need to over pay. Sometimes you have to do more than just building thru the draft.

Very true, but one of the major components to inking White beyond money was a young QB that could play this game and give the team a chance to win every Sunday.

We have that component.. and Aaron's reputation is growing nicely in this league. That will help sway players in our favor.

Also in the "reputation" department-

"The shift."

The NFC East has had the reputation as the best division in the NFC. The NFC North has had the reputation of being the worst, ot at least in perennial competition to be the worst. We could argue that, but just remember these kids-for the most part- have no real friggin' clue what is going on in the NFL. They are doing their own thing through high school and college.

Brett Favre to Minnesota, Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay, Jay Cutler (if he stops sucking) and Schwartz (bigger deal than Sanchez, by far, imo) in Detroit will only make this division better and more noticeable.

To me, this is an under appreciated aspect of a huge dynamic in the NFL...I rarely see anyone speak to it.

Those NFC East teams are designed to beat one another. This creates a symbiosis in that they really, really work at getting superior trench players...to beat one another. The media will fawn over the glamor/skill positions, but if you start looking at the actual design of the various teams, you will discover that they shine brightly on those trenches.

This is going to really start happening in earnest (imo) in the North. When and if it does, we will be regarded (I'm speaking of the entire division) in much higher esteem than we have been held in recent history. It is always good to have a good division. We will strive to beat the Vikings strengths, the Bears will do the same for both of us, etc. etc. etc.

This creates not only symbiosis, but synergy as well. See non for translation. :thumbleft:

If we (the division) "takes over" as the perceived "class" of the NFC, this will help immeasurably in the "all things being equal where would a prospective player want to play" department.

I think the whole small-town thing is a bit over-emphasized by Packer fans in comparison to some of these other factors.

The cold is another matter. It can get friggin' cold there, and it's a mean cold, too. You get the sense that the friggin' north pole is just outside the town limits or something... To our foreign members, watch the movie, "Fargo" --- Pay close attention to the parking lot scene, and the sound that the snow makes when walked upon.

I got nothing for you in that department. :thumbleft:

Edit-- Found it.

Not a "snowstorm" Not windy, just another typical winter day...Many (from there) would characterize it as a very nice day, as a matter of fact...

Listen to that crunch when he walks. That crunch is an FA killer, lol.

SI does a poll every week. MLB, NBA, NFL for the most part. Questions like, "Who is the most over rated player?" "Under rated?" "Who is the toughest player?" "Which would like to play for most/least?" and so on.

It just so happens this one was a least liked question. I doubt the editors at SI really care what kind of an image they portray a franchise.

There are many reasons players won't come here

1) main reason Ted Thompson He refuses to pay free agents and he really doesn't take care of players he didn't draft.

2) Not winning

3) small town

4) weather

5) MM i believe is another reason
He doesn't seem like a players coach and seems lost alot of times

Not only is WI winter cold, it's dismal, gray, depressing, monotonous, and long as hell. It's as if all color gets sucked out of the world for 1/3 of the year.

I grew up in WI, and now I live in Colorado Springs, where we still get plenty of winter weather, but the snow melts after most storms, and the sun comes out most days during the winter. It's like a night and day difference. I really hope I never live in WI again in my life. I can't blame anyone for not wanting to live in GB, and it has NOTHING to do with Ted Thompson.

I don't think that this has anything to do with McCarthy. Isn't the problem here that he's too much of a players coach, instead of not being one? He takes the blame for all the problems, doesn't get on the players too much etc.

And it's obvious that we're not signing a whole lot of FAs, but what on earth do you mean by saying that he doesn't take care of guys he hasn't drafted? What has he done that makes you say that? Did he just cut Pickett or something? What'd I miss?

I actually do think that this has something to do with Ted Thompson. Not on purpose, I think, but it has. Let me explain.

Players stick with other players. Brett Favre is a player. Especially with most NFL players not being the smartest bunch, I can imagine that they've just looked at that story from one side. The Favre side. Pretty much making Ted Thompson a bad guy and someone you don't want to play football for.

Just some fall-out from all of this crap, I'm afraid.

This was true in the 90s and it's true today. Reggie White coming to the Packers had a great deal to do with improving the image of the Packers to the rest of the league. He was not only a force for sacks but a force for attracting free agents from all over the league who wanted to play on a super bowl caliber team. I think we could really benefit from one big name like that coming to the team. Ted Thompson and McCarthy just need to go find him and convince him to come.

Holmgren: "Reggie, this is God, go to Green Bay."

Gotta get 'em up Nort during the summer months.

Few places better, in the summer.

Thank goodness for global warming. It would have sucked to have what happened in the 60's show up on youtube. There was a a series of bad storms, plus some sustained really cold weather, I forget the exact details and the exact year.

ANYWAY, what happened was that some of the snow and ice never went away where they piled it..places like gas stations and stuff.

4th of July, and you would see these ugly black piles of snow and ice in the corners of the gas stations... This would not have appealed to someone from say, Florida.
