But he is getting the job done on the field. Mike McCarthy just isn't exploiting his strengths.

Run to the outside right -- gain yards. Run it up the middle -- get stuffed. Simple equation.

If you're always running to the right, then the defenses will start to shift across. I'm glad we're seeing success in the outside run. We just have to balance out the amount of outside runs (both left and right) with runs up the middle.

Are you saying replacing Barbre would make that situation any better? All you would have done is make the better side of the line, well.. better. Or are you agreeing and saying the left side of the line needs to be worked on first to balance it out? Because I would love to see balance as well.

And Rios, I don't recall Barbre giving up both of our 2 sacks on the day. I'm going to watch the tape. If he did give up 2 that means he gave up 0 against the Bengals since he has a total of 5 on the season, and we know the sad 3 he gave up against the Bearcubs. And isn't part of that what you like, is that he has improved since week 1? That's what I'm looking for in any player. Especially on our oline where we have a glaring deficiency. And with Cliffy getting hurt again this year, I'm concerned more about availability. And we saw what happened when Clifton wasn't available (I don't blame it all on Colledge, that was a tough sledding kind of day). Well I ramble on, but I like this debate.

And yes Barbre did give up the two sacks. Little is the left DE who had both sacks. I

I think you are interpreting that wrong. The depth chart is facing the opponent, so Little was on the left side of the defense, which is our right. it's like looking in a mirror or something. 😛

Just curious?

How is that a good sign? since that confirms Barbre is being a huge liability in pass protection.

Colledge doesn't play LT and he did ok, considering. I'm very concerned about our RT situation and not concerned much about the rest of the line. But what one WEAK spot will do is make the mistakes from Clifton, Spitz, Colledge, Sitton look all that more glaring when they do (and they will) happen. Barbre needs to sharpen up or we are in big problems.

I think it's un-acceptable to have the skilled players like Rodgers, Grant, Jennings, Driver, Jones, Finley but have ONE or two positions not allowing them to fully succeed. That one weakness really gives headaches for everyone. It should have been addressed.

Now that it's hasn't, Barbre is going to have to improve or bring someone in that will. The game against the Rams would have been my last straw with him and I would have brought in someone that can at least challenge for a spot vs a big game against the Vikings.

What I meant by my phrase wasn't necessarily to call out on players who need to be replaced. I think naturally McCarthy needs to grind it out in the middle in order to have the success he does on the outside. I think the reason we gain good yards around the outside is that opponents know they can get good penetration in the centre on a dive play, so they clog up the middle expecting another 1 yard gain. Since Grant is pushed off tackle or on a power play, the defensive linemen are trapped in the centre unable to make a play on Grant by the time he's around the corner. That's how we can see 8 yard gains.

Although that is nice to see, I'd rather have a solid 5 yards per run in any direction. I don't want to see opponents clogging up the middle expecting a inside run and stopping us for 1 or 2 yards every 3 out of 4 attempts. I want them to be hesitant to penetrate too far in case Grant pulls it left or right. I want them to hesitate slightly before committing. I want them knowing that Grant can turn it upfield anywhere behind the line of scrimmage. I think McCarthy should run more outside runs to achieve this balance.

As for the players on the offensive line, I believe Barbre is supposedly solid against the run. I still want to see TJ Lang at LT. I don't know if replacing our linemen is the right strategy since there isn't a bona fide starter in free agency, and they'd take time to learn our offense. I think better playcalling in this regard is the first step to an improved offensive line, even if we have the same guys.
