The how do you utilize Meyers, Rhyan and Newman correctly? That's the pieces the coaches were given ... and much better OL were taken after them.

Via the draft, Gute has added talented WRs and ILBers, Alexander, but what else? (Counting Musgrave as a WR).

Certainly not linemen.

FWIW, Gute has done a better job than i expected since taking over. Could he do better? Absoultely

I don't mind the misses, I mind always missing at such an important position of linemen. Linemen create (or on defense take away) the time and space for others and if others do or don't have time and space then it's that's what decides the game.

It's absolutely disgusting he isn't drafting Hall of Famer after Hall of Famer at the end of each round. The Chiefs do it just fine, why can't almighty Brian Gutekunst!!!!
FIRE THEM ALL!!!

Edit, wow, that came of super douchey.

I don't know squat about the draft so to presume someone isn't doing well or is doing well isn't for me to pretend to know. There are drafts where one position is deep, and another shallow. That's a variable I think we forget at times.

Wow, all these harsh reactions to us getting crushed by the Lions. I mean we have the youngest team in the NFL and playing all backup linemen against a good to great pass rush. I didn't hear anyone screaming for the Packers to grab an O-lineman with their 1st round pick this year, instead, we drafted a guy that barely gets on the field. People just need to chill and just remember we are going to have growing pains with a 1st-year starter at QB and rookies and 2nd-year wideouts. The part that does piss me off is seeing our defense constantly getting run over by a running back and our DBS throwing a shoulder and hoping the runner will fall down. I mean can't a DB use their arms to wrap up a runner? I said it last night I would love to know how many yards we give up after contact.

Side note we do have to remember we are spending a ton of money on an injured CB an injured LT an injured ILB and what the hell happened to Kenny Clark does he even play anymore?
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Gute passed on the hyped Center and selected Meyers, only for the hyped Center to be an all pro year after year drafted one pick after Meyers.

But for those that follow the draft and know lineman, Gute has made a questionable picks, you give him the benefit of the doubt as he's supposed to do the expert, but not a single one is developing.

Except Tom, but I was telling people Tom is the next Bakhtiari before the draft, and Packers scouted Tom to the interior, and I have no freaking clue how you pick Rhyan over him.

If you didn't hear a few people screaming for the the Packers to take OT Broderick Jones then you don't follow that kind of thing closely as there was absolutely a group of them, and just to be clear, not an OT, but Jones specifically. They fell in love with him pre-draft.

But of course if you really follow the draft, you would notice Gute has a general pattern, 1st round defense, 2nd, 3rd and 4th round offense. (At least when not using the 4th round pick to trade up), so why call for an offensive player in the first when Gute doesn't usually take them until round 2?

Gute has used a lot of draft capital on OL and DL and hasn't gotten much out of it.

And as for Clark, I believe he plays a lot, but he's been getting worse each year (according to PFF since like 2018), he's just not the same player he used to be. Last year he was just slightly above average, and this year (so far) is slightly below average.

This defensive scheme helps coverage deep and leaves the guys up front out to dry... meaning it's easier to run on. It needs dominant DL for it to work well and Packers simply don't have it, which is why it'll struggle against the better OLs, which Falcons are ranked top 10 OL by PFF and Lions top 5. The good news is currently ranked, the Packers only have two more games against currently top 10 PFF ranked OL in the Buccaneers and Lions (again).

So in theory, the Defense should improve simply by not haven't many top 10 OL left to play.

With how the NFL works, teams basically have to build the core through the draft, and since majority of those contracts are 4 year contracts, the NFL basically goes through continual 4 year cycles. And since rookies usually contribute less, it's mainly the older groups of that 4 year cycle.

The Packers are struggling right now (partly because they're rebuilding the cap up after going all in) but also because the Packers two older draft groups pretty much suck.

To save time, I'm mainly going to be focusing on top 4 rounds as that's where most talent usually comes from. But will mention other good finds.

2020 Draft
1) QB Love
2) RB Dillon
3) TE Dugara
6) OL Runyan
They jury is still deliberating on Love as he hasn't played a half a season yet, but as far as the rest of the draft, it's seriously seriously struggled outside of Runyan.

2021 Draft
1) CB Stokes
2) C Meyers
3) WR Rodgers
4) OL Newman
5) DL Slaton
6) McDuffie
CB Stokes rookie play showed some potential, but his sophomore year was ugly before his injury, like totally reacting after being burned no route anticipation. Rodgers is gone. I think we can let Meyers and Newman play speak for itself (made even worse by drafting Rhyan in the 3rd the following year, thank goodness for Tom). Value wise, Slaton might turn out to be the best pick from this draft at this rate.

You have this many misses in back to back years and your team is going to struggle. We need someone that can scout OL and interior DL, as the jury is absolutely still out of the current Packers scouts can do that well.

I think overall, he has done a fine job, as with anyone in life, they do not bat 1000.

We went for it, knew we were going to be in cap trouble this season, and he filled the depth coffers the best he could. This offensive line looked deep going into the season, but losing 40% of the starting rotation is tough.. but Yoshi is still on this team as well, can't tell me Yoshi at RT and Tom at LG wouldn't have been better than what we trotted out their against Detroit. But that is not a GM issue.

Personally, we have the wrong people at OC and DC currently.. again, not a GM issue. Stenavich is a great offensive line coach, not sure he is fitted to be an OC or at the very least learning on the job. DC.. that is another thread.

But again.. not a GM issue.

We reupped the marriage with Rodgers before last season.. yes Gute owns part of that. No doubt.

But this is a pretty good roster overall.. and fairly deep overall. I think our problem is coaching, MLF owns that more so than the GM.
