Brandon Underwood and Pat Lee can be let go, they I feel had their chance and did nothing with it.

I'm not so sure that is the case. Lee has been injured quite a bit, to the point that when he is healthy he is mostly an afterthought.

Underwood, while having a promising off-season (minus that incident), got injured (shoulder) before the start of the season and was never right in the limited time he did play. I don't know if he had that much of an opportunity to get on the field with Shields emergence and his own injuries... I feel there still may be a chance for Underwood at least, if not also Lee.

Lee, Underwood, gone. They need replaced.

The fact that Woodson would be willing to move shows a lot of class...and the urge for another ring. With Woodson's injury, I think it would be a valuable option for him to move to safety and also for Burnett, to get some playing time and valuable experience.

This would only be a possibility though with another prime DB such as Aso. Unfortunately, this is not likely for Ted Thompson to do so I will not get my hopes up. Even though Woodson isn't recruiting him, maybe Ted Thompson at least takes a small look and makes a good deal with Aso, who is willing to take a pay cut for a contender.

Packers already have the best odds to win the next Super Bowl :thumbleft:

I would rather resign Jenkins and Hawk than spend the money on a CB.

Leave one of the best defenses in the NFL intact as possible. We sign this guy, as good as he is, and there is little to no chance these other two come back here.

I do see Chalres Woodson moving the safety.

By the middle of next season, he will move to safety because Sam Shields will be ready to be the number #2 corner.

"all_about_da_packers" wrote:

While Shields might be ready to be a #2, moving Charles to safety as a result assumes that we have some capable #3 CB... which we currently do not have.

Frankly, I'd be all for a move of Charles to Safety - he provides a skill set and plays the game in a way that is an excellent complement to Nick Collins' style. At the very least, I think C-Wood is a much, much better fit for Collins than Burnett was as a rookie. Maybe Burnett improves considerably in the tackling and hitting dept. in his second season - but until he does I believe pairing him with Collins (thereby forcing Collins to play closer to the line of scrimmage) is a waste of Collins' talent.

Having said all that, I just don't think Woodson can be moved to safety. You essentially go from having a solid starting trio to having Jarret Bush as your nickle. That is not much of an appealing option.

I could be reading this all wrong, but it seems like people are suggesting the move to safety for Woodson contingent on signing someone like Asomugha, which would leave the 3 top CBs as Williams/Asomugha/Sheilds. No?

EDIT: my bad. I just noticed that you were directly quoting someone suggesting Sheilds could be the #2 CB.

The Leafs still suck though. 😃

We were never big spenders and we won the superbowl with that approach.

We saw what happened in the Super Bowl. One injury to the secondary means everybody is easy pickings.

Stunting Shields and Burnett's growth? I beg to differ. Dom Capers uses something that all DC's use called "packages." Trust me, with Asomugha, Capers can get more creative. He wants the best people on the field in the best situations.

I'll understand the whole money issue. But let's be real here. Nnamdi Asomugha is the best cornerback in the NFL. The fact that he has no stats proves it. We took a chance on Charles Woodson, who was at the time--injured goods.

Asomugha was hurt his rookie year. Other than that, he's a reliable and consistent threat.

I'd rather he end up with us than the Jets.

You can talk about the future all you want, but we just won the Super Bowl. The future is now.

dfosterf (4-May) : Google it. Make sure to tack NFL on it or you will get the military meaning
Zero2Cool (4-May) : S2?
beast (4-May) : Seems like the S2 has a love/hate relationship with professional scouts.
