Tough call IMO, considering the emergence of Shields.

Let's not forget that Burnett will be back also at the safety position and we all ready have Collins on the other side.

The only way I see this happening is on a 3-4 year deal nothing more.

No way I want Wood playing SS, especially after that broken collar bone. He obviously is not going to replace Collins. The thought might excite people but the reality wouldn't. Stunting two younger promising corners with an older one, and putting a hall of fame CB in the SS position where he's never played sounds like a disaster to me. Did I mention he will probably be the highest paid corner in the league? No thanks, end of discussion, resign the core we have instead (Jones, Jenkins).

I know for at least a couple games toward the end of the year Woodson was playing Safety for base formations instead of Peprah already. Either way I don't see any way that having Collins/Woodson and Aso/Tramon/Shields as your secondary would = even a letdown let alone "disaster" that's just nonsense.

I do see Chalres Woodson moving the safety.

By the middle of next season, he will move to safety because Sam Shields will be ready to be the number #2 corner.

While Shields might be ready to be a #2, moving Charles to safety as a result assumes that we have some capable #3 CB... which we currently do not have.

Frankly, I'd be all for a move of Charles to Safety - he provides a skill set and plays the game in a way that is an excellent complement to Nick Collins' style. At the very least, I think C-Wood is a much, much better fit for Collins than Burnett was as a rookie. Maybe Burnett improves considerably in the tackling and hitting dept. in his second season - but until he does I believe pairing him with Collins (thereby forcing Collins to play closer to the line of scrimmage) is a waste of Collins' talent.

Having said all that, I just don't think Woodson can be moved to safety. You essentially go from having a solid starting trio to having Jarret Bush as your nickle. That is not much of an appealing option.

I was going to bring up the point of how often last year did we actually line up with just 2 cbs in the game. It seemed like we ran mostly a nickel package as our base. So you leave shields at #3 move Woodson to safety bring in the stud and guess what now you don't have to worry about resigning a few free agents. The players like shields and Woodson would feel right at home and Burnett would get to learn tricks from Woodson.

Just my thoughts, it all comes down to the price and if he was telling the truth about taking a pay cut to play for a contender. Well how much more of a contender does he want we are defending champs and odds on favorite to repeat.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be šŸ™‚ (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Even though our secondary is good you can't just sit on things. I get goosebumps when I think of that potential legendary secondary. If this happens, I don't see how any team could beat us if we ended up with a lead of any sort on them. Our pass defense would be epic.

We can get it done, and put an epic mix of young talent and veterans out on the field next year. I think we should all get our hopes up that this is going to happen.

Ted would never go for this if he thought it would end up hurting the team in the long run, so if it ended up happening I'd be the happiest and most confident football fan in the [strike]world[/strike] universe.

I said it in the early stages of Nnamdi's contract being drop or what not that I wouldn't be surprised to see him as a Packer. I'd expect a two year contract because yeah Sam Shields played great, but there is a theory about sophomore slumps and maybe he was a one year wonder. That does happen. Nnamdi is proven.

Brandon Underwood and Pat Lee can be let go, they I feel had their chance and did nothing with it.

I think when you look at Nnamdi signing with the Packers from a high level, it looks out of the question, but when you drill down, it makes a lot of sense.

Again, I wouldn't expect anything more than a two year contract because that makes sense for Nnamdi and the Packers. It gives them solid insurance on Tramon and Sam, while Nnamdi gets a real shot for a ring. If he gets a ring, I bet he bolts for the biggest pay day and lives happily ever after.

Agreed, but I'm guessing 75% chance Ted drafts us a DB for depth and maybe even a second one who can return kicks/punts.

I hope you were saying this more in jest... it is gonna be extremely tough to sign Asomugha. Andrew Brandt, in one of his post-season columns, flat out said the Packers have invested so heavily in their secondary (Woodson, Collins, and now Tramon) that it virtually took them out of the running for Asomugha.

The depth chart would be epic, but frankly it is very unrealistic.

I wonder if we already have one on our team in Sam Shields. Granted he needs more seasoning, but against the Vikings the second time we played them they were kicking short and generally trying to prevent Shields from returning the ball. Impressive considering that Shields was (is) essentially unproven as a returner.

A DB might be a possibility if there is one in the later rounds that the front office rated very highly, but considering all the younger DBs on this team I wonder if Ted really feels like he needs to add even more competition at CB / S.
