A day after melting down, screaming at fans and "accidentally" throwing his helmet 10 rows back into the stands, Jacobs asks for a trade. Talk about poor timing...

If we wind up trading for an ass-clown, at least get us one that's talented...

Run blocking doesn't look good and Jackson didn't look very agressive hitting the few holes there were.
This could be a problem if it doesn't improve. November and December in Lambeau pretty much makes a decent run game imperative.
A decent run game is also nice when they want to control the clock.

At this point the Packers don't have anything that resembles a decent running game. We have got to hope for an improvement over the next month.

How about the play calling? 3rd and 2 multiple times and we run a long pass play? WTF? Even my two year old boy was yelling "Run the ball!" (because I was repeatedly.) I think he's going to grow up thinking that this is what you do when you watch football. Yell "Run the ball".

It's hard to say is BJack is a concern because he didn't get the ball enough. I would also like to see Quinn lead blocking and knocking guys over like we know that he can.

When they actually gave Jackson some carries, I don't remember many holes being there. It seemed as if they wanted to run straight up the middle with him every time. I was hoping to see more outside runs.

Either way, they didn't give him enough carries to generate any kind of rhythm, imo.

The blocking was bad, but Jackson looked a little tentative. He can play better than that. Heck, he played better than that the week before, against a better team. Maybe the Bills were just selling out to stop the run, but this has got to be a concern. As the Engineer said, let's see how he does next week, though, before making any rash judgments.

our running game really didn't look any different than it ever does with Grant, minus his one or two break-aways every few games. difference here is that it was being split up between 4 different guys whereas normally Grant would have gotten most of those carries and given y'all the false perception that he had a "good" game.

Except that he had a 4 YPC in most of his games. Grant is way better than B-Jack or Kuhn or Nance.

Well folks, for all the hate Grant gets from Packers fans, now you see why I like the guy so much. He is consistently a top 50% starting RB and last year, he was arguably top 10. Nothing flashy. No crazy moves. Nothing sexy. Just results. But in the end, results are what counts, even if they're not pretty.

Jackson wouldn't start on most NFL teams. Kuhn hits the line harder, and he's necessary because we're not opening holes for our RBs. Nance, I want to see more of.

Don't know what you got 'til it's gone. Grant's a fine RB.

I stand by my SB prediction though. We can still win it with mediocre running talent. Just throw more screens, pass more, and run more draws. The OL is not opening up the holes. So let the WCO open up the running game for us.

Every year this thread comes out early in the season and it's true that we haven't run the ball that great in the first six or seven games under McCarthy.

I have, however, run numbers on this in the past and found that the top scoring offenses all pass the ball extremely well and run it average and in many cases below average. We at least find a way to get the run game to respectable numbers and McCarthy will always stay at it because it's important when the weather turns.

The bottom line is we are a passing team and do the smart thing by putting the ball in Rodgers hands. You either set up the run with the pass or set up the pass with the run and we set up the run game with the pass.

When it gets cold and the ground gets hard and the players are freezing out there we will be running the ball and I expect we will see the same decent run numbers result from it.

Our run game gets dogged more than it should. By the end of the year we generally have better numbers than the other prolific passing teams in the league. When I ran these numbers last only NE made it in the top 10 in both passing and running and our overall numbers put us second or third. I think we were 3rd in passing and 14th in running.

My guess is we will be right back at about the same level this year. EVERY team and EVERY fan would love to see their offense kick butt in both but the reality of it is very few do.

SB winners traditionally end up in the top 10 scoring offenses and top 5 scoring defenses. Other than NO last year who just kept scoring points like the Energizer Bunny. Even with them their overall rushing numbers were only so-so.

Running yards don't even matter. It is attempts. Attempting the running game is what keeps defenses honest and on their toes, doesn't matter if we rush for 3 or 5 per attempt. Do I want more? Sure, who doesn't, but for offense I don't believe it is critical.

to an extent, I agree with what you say warhawk, but someone else mentioned the team passing on 3rd and 2. I don't know if that's a function of lack of confidence in the run game, or a function of trying to pick it up with your best asset (pasing game).

Either way, it's important to have the ability to pick up 3rd and 2 running it, but I don't have the confidence in the team right now, and I'm not sure that MM does either.
