Kick returner Clifton Smith's two-year, $1.615 million contract with Miami contained $130,000 in bonus money....

That was it? $1.615 million? I know we can't exactl throw around money, especially with all the front loaded contracts we've been giving out, already, but I'd take my chances on the kid if that's all you'd have to pay up. Even with his "injury problems".

And here I thought that was over paying a one dimensional player..
But look at it relatively.
We paid a rotational ILB $22.65 million over 4 years, with $7 million guaranteed.
We paid a back-up safety $1.545 for 1 year of play.
We gave a running back who had just a couple of good games a 4 yeard contract, worth up to $30 million.
As for returners... Devin Hester got paid a contract worth as much as $40 million over 4 years. Joshua Cribbs got a 3 year contract, worth as much as $20 million.
And I'm not saying that we should fork over that kind off money to "just" a punt returner with some injury problems and problems holding onto the ball. You don't pay David Garrard like you would Tom Brady. But one dimensional or not, these guys are getting paid.
$1.615 million over 2 years is very doable for a guy who both keeps Tramon off the field and can actually contribute on STs, rather than just not hurt us.
