Tromadz hates Ryan Grant, and puppies.

My gripe with Ryan Grant is this:

He's good. But he could be a hell of a lot better.

There's a lot of seemingly easy/simple mistakes that he makes which make us shake our heads, in spite of the numbers he puts up. It just feels like he hasn't made the best use of his abilities or break tackles in the secondary. If Grant's absolute best was a 1200 yard season, then all good, but he has the potential to go further. Which is why it's frustrating seeing him run into the back of Sitton 5 yards upfield.

Ryan Grant facts:

Ryan Grant by half
1st half - 144att, 653yards, 8TD
2nd half- 136att, 600yards, 3TD

Ryan Grant on 1st down
176att, 842yards, 4.8avg

15th in yards after contact/ attempt for backs with 150+ carries (Ronnie Brown and Pierre Thomas were both ahead of him also with 147 carries each)

Ran for 61 first downs (ties for 5th in the NFL)

Overall he isn't incredible or anything. Everything he is good at he should be good at in this offense. Hell yeah I would love to have someone back there who would take even more advantage of the system Green Bay runs but the fact is that Grant IS getting it done. This team can win with a running back who just takes what is there and limits mistakes. If someone better comes along then so be it but the reason Grant is the starter is because nobody else on the roster has earned the job.

My personal opinion is he improved a lot last year from the previous and if he can make strides again this year he should be pretty good. I would love to see a RB out there who is breaking tackles and making people miss which seems to be Grant's weakness but he is good enough to help us win and that is all I care about. You can say how you think all the back ups are better all you want but they won't play until they step up like Grant did in 07 and earn their spot.

I would be cool if we just used the RB as a blocking dummy though and feed him the ball only every once in a while because I love to see the passing game as much as possible lol.

Interestingly enough when doing a search I accidentally typed in Ryan Graint (twice) so maybe I subconsciously DON'T believe he's the guy.

Wait, he has more yards in the first half AND more touchdowns? I thought he racked up most of his yards after the game was 'over' though?

Personally, I never understood all the love for Brandon Jackson.

Now that there is a guy that runs up offensive linemen's asses too much, or at least did when he got his "real shot."

He is worse at playing behind a suck-ass line than Ryan Grant, by far, imo

I know he has progressed, but really, since we went down the AD/Grant comparison trail, why not go down the same trail and include Minny's "combo" vs. our "combo".

Now there is some noise that the Vikes might get Westbrook. That would suck for us if he is healthy on the days when we play them, imo.

I think it's kind of similar to the love many fans give to the back-up QB when they are not absolutely in love with the starting one.

Just throwin' it out there for further discussion, because I'm not evaluating any of them in earnest until my line no longer sucks.

You don't need a great running game to win championships. Saints had a decent combination of guys. Steelers had Willie Parker in his last good year. Giants had a great running game with Jacobs and Bradshaw, but their defense won them the Super Bowl. Colts had Addai, who's never been a top 10 back.

With the exception of the Giants, I think we have a better run game than any of the last 4 champions had. And with our pass offense being as awesome as it is, I don't think we should invest more recources or draft picks into our backfield, unless every other position in our team is addressed properly.

Does anyone consider that (dare I say it) the zone blocking scheme might be working. We can take a better than average runner and he can put up monster numbers. Food for thought.
