Colledge being brought up for no reason just shows you guys got nothin. NOTHIN! RAHH!

Like I said, Grant is average at best and benefits from teams wetting themselves thinking about our passing game.

I get frustrated thinking how good he COULD be if he wasn't so soft(arm tackles) and dumb(linemen banging). But hey, he's top 10 in yards!

Sorry I'm not happy with mediocrity! There's a reason(several actually) Ryan Grant is "underappreciated" by people(not just me). And he hurts our passing game because 1. He can't block 2. He can't catch well at all and 3. When he comes out, you know what's going to happen. A passing play 99% of the time. Luckily our passing game can deal with his mediocrity. I mean "Ryan Grant is awesome! He's top 10 in some stats!"

Just calling what I see on the field, and I'll make sure to do so in gameday chats. Muwhahahaha!

Tromadz hates Ryan Grant, and puppies.

I think Ryan Grant is a good fit for this system. Sure, I'd love to have Chris Johnson, or some elite RB, but I just don't think it's necessary in our system. Give Grant better blocking, and he'll provide us with everything our system needs, and more.

15th in yards after contact/ attempt for backs with 150+ carries (Ronnie Brown and Pierre Thomas were both ahead of him also with 147 carries each)

"Stevetarded" wrote:

If you throw in Ronnie Brown and Pierre Thomas you've got the top 33 rushers based on number of carries. The fact that Grant is 17th on that list shows that he is mediocre when it comes to breaking tackles. A 4.4 ypc also puts him at about the 50th percentile for those backs carrying the most. He is a good back but not a great back.

I think his biggest problem is his balance. I feel like sometimes he just has all of his weight out in front of his body so if anything makes good contact with him he'll fall forward but he's going down. If he could work on breaking even just a few of these tackles he would be so much more effective. If we got the line sorted as well we could probably see his average ypc over 5.

In 09 Grant was 5th in yards after contact with 774 and 6th in 08 with 814.

Grant could lead the league in touchdowns if he got more redzone/goal line carries. He was 6/7 in touchdowns, runs inside the 3 which lead the league. If you compare that too the top of the touchdown leaders:

Peterson 10/17
Thomas Jones 7/14
Chris Johnson 4/8
Tomlinson 6/17
MJD 3/11
McGahee 5/9
Ricky Williams 5/8

Touchdowns, Running inside the 10

Grant was 4th with 8/17

Peterson 15/40
MJD 10/30
Jones 10/32
Johnson 6/21

I see running backs being tackled by arm tackles all of the time. It's not like there's a plethora of bruisers out that that break every arm tackle, or even a majority of them. I think Adrian Peterson and Steven Jackson are two off the top of my head. Brandon Jacobs too. There's probably a half dozen that consistently break arm tackles.

I think we were spoiled with Ahman Green and don't really appreciate how special of a talent he was and perhaps we feel he was just slightly above average and the next RB should be at least as good as him.

Personally, I never understood all the love for Brandon Jackson.

"dfosterf" wrote:

Does Jackson really get that much love? I think he's a pretty good third down back who maybe could do a decent job as the starter in a pinch. As far as I can tell, that seems to be a typical opinion. And there are plenty of fans who have been itching for someone to beat out Jackson for the #2 RB spot. I wouldn't mind seeing that either, but I think Jackson performs his role quite well.

Ryan Grant is not bad, but he isn't great either. He has the potential but either he is stubborn or he isn't being coached right. People love that he falls forward all the time (and I do too) but the problem is he will just fall forward even if there's a gaping hole right next to him! If he can just learn to keep his eyes up maybe he will become an elite running back but until then, he will just be another solid running back who can give you 20-30 carries a game.
