Porky - For one, MN was lost by our D not pulling their weight. We scored 23 and 26 points, which should have been enough to win one of those games.

The other, weren't most of the problems from the Tackle positions, not the inside?

I really don't think the priority to making this a better team isn't the middle of our OL. I'm much more concerned about T Williams getting signed right now.

I agree. But Porky brings up a good point. We're going up against some of the greatest DTs in the league. Two of them on one team in Minnesota's case.

To push these guys who are build as NTs you could use some good interior linemen. I don't think that Wells has the strength to do that. He's one of the most replacable guys on the line.

Again, I don't like to put Lang at guard. I don't want to screw around with his mechanics too much. Just keep him at RT, work him there. I can't see Tauscher holding on to that starting spot for very much longer. Plus, how good is Bulaga right now? He obviously looked very raw in OTAs, having a guy like Lang who can step in at either T spot and play at a decent level is quite important.

Clifton - Spitz - Wells - Sitton - Tauscher is still the line that I see starting this season.

It gives you good depth at the guard and tackle spots, with Spitz sliding to the center position if Wells goes down.

Like I said, Wells is replacable, but you have Sitton next to him who can handle guys like Tommie Harris by himself, which frees things up for Wells a bit.

Unless he would be willing to play for another team for a quite a bit less I would not be interested trading for him. And if I were to trade, a 3rd would be tops. We should be in a much better position this year. Our young linemen have more experience and should be better, if not we're in trouble. We are starting out with Clifton and Tauscher, not Barbe. And we drafted what looks to be a couple of good prospects.

All that being said, we should never pass up the chance to make our team better as long as the "price"($, player, pick) is somewhat reasonable.

Edit: We made that mistake by not trading a 4th for Moss and it likely cost us a SB.

No argument whatsoever there.

So...

Pass. Run 10-15% of the time and pass the rest of the time. MN's fatties aren't going to catch Aaron Rodgers. If I remember correctly, he was getting hit from the outside guys, mostly Jared Allen.

Play to your strengths. Cover up your weaknesses. Analyze your opponent and play to his weaknesses and don't let him play to his strengths.
Mike McCarthy did that in '07 and that was hands down his best year of playcalling.

I wouldn't let the average get in the way of the good.

I agree with Rock's prediction on what the staring lineup will look like. I was simply saying what I think it should look like. I just think the best way to counter the bigger and more powerful players the Packers go up against is to get big and nasty. I think the lineup I gave does that better than any combination of starters the Packers have. I also think it solidifies the interior line for the next decade.

Most of those points were scored when the Packers were already so far behind that they had little chance to catch up, and seven of the first half points were on a fumble return by Clay Matthews.

I agree that most of the problems were with the tackles, but the interior OL was not great in those early games either. There is room for improvement there.

I don't want to see Lang move inside though. I think he is more valuable to us at the tackle position. And Mankins is demanding a ridiculous amount of money--money that would be better spent at other positions.

Yes, that's what I'm getting at.

We have a limited supply of money. Some positions simply have to be "good enough" and I strongly think the middle of our OL is "good enough."

Zero2Cool (6h) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (7h) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (21h) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (21h) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you
wpr (22-Jan) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (22-Jan) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.

Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
