I question the notion that a Taser should be used as an arbiter of coolness.

Thank you NSD for pointing out the logical fallacy in Formo's post ; I think I lost a few IQ points reading his line of reasoning. And then he tells us tasers aren't as bad as most make them out to be - as if he's got experience being tasered. :-?

Dude running on the field was 17. FFS, he's running back and forth waving a white towel around - anyone who thinks this kid had potentially dangerous aspirations is deluding themselves. Does he hold up the game? Yeah, sure. Should he be removed? Yeah. Does he deserve tasering for his actions? Dude is running around. If the cop can't keep up with him, get in better shape instead of resorting to a damn taser.

What's so hard to understand here? You run on the field, one of the consequences is getting tased. Don't want to be tased? STAY THE FUCK OFF THE FIELD.

This isn't rocket science.

Arguing this is damn like saying oven's shouldn't be so hot because when you put your hand on it (while hot) you get burned. Oh noes! Better abolish ovens because they burnt ya!

Give me a break. live by the rules and don't get tased.

By that logic, Kevin, there's no reason why they shouldn't be able to gun him down. After all, it isn't rocket science. He should have stayed off the field.

The question here isn't should the young man have been allowed on the field, nor is it whether the security personnel were justified in subduing him. The question at hand is whether the proper method of subduing him was performed.

He ran on a baseball field. Remove him, obviously. Running on to a baseball field as a fan for kicks, though, is not a sufficient measure to resort to using a taser.

Thanks NSD (seriously) for making my point much more eloquently. 🙂

I suggest they use fluffy bunny launchers to subdue the attention whore fans that run onto a field. Because, golly gee willickers.. we wouldn't want to hurt anyone's psyche. BTW, the fluffy bunnies I'm suggesting are stuffed toy rabbits.. Not the real animals. So you can put away your PETA pitchforks now.

That is all.

You know some jerkoffs are going to say "hey i wanna get tased, im gonna run onto the field!! check me out!" .

This kid phoned his pops telling him he was going to do it. I have no remorse for premeditated stupidity.

If he was in a drunken stooper and spur of the moment ran onto the field because of a call on the field he disagreed with... Ok I can MAYBE be more lenient.

We have rules.
We have consequences.

Rule is, no running onto the field.
Consequence is, getting tased.

Seems pretty simple to me. Can't handle being tased? don't run your ass on the field. again its a taser, not a bullet.

You realize that was pretty stupid, right? Being gunned down for running onto a field? A bullet is just a tad more devastating than a taser, ya think?

Is a taser overkill? I think if it's the second option, no. First option manually subduing the douche bag. If that's failing, resort to tasing.

It's not rocket science, it's common sense. When did we lose that?

But what if someone decides that the consequence IS a bullet? That's the point. Where is the line drawn and who draws it? And how much flexibility are security personnel to be given over how flexible it is?
