Mr. Nolan, Mike McCarthy is on line 1

Greg later tweeted that he was "mostly" kidding.

What's do you guys think, though? In all honesty, Capers' defenses have a tendency to shoot up the rankings in year one and gradually go down from there on out (can't find the stats for that, atm). Nolan is an amazing DC.

There is something to be said about continuity and, usually, you don't sack a DC after he's propelled your defense forward like this.

It's very unlikely that we'll make any sort of move here, but what'd you like?

All I'm saying re Nolan is nothing shocks me. I have no insider info on this, it just happened. But Mike McCarthy was not happy about the last 1

I dig Capers.

sure he's capable of getting out-schemed, but you could say the same of virtually any D coordinator in the league. on that note, it really boils down to the players execution. I doubt he called any plays against the Cards that included leaving somebody wide-fucking-open. lol

i think if he's given the tools, we'll only get better.

also Nolan's guys totally quit on him.

The off-season madness has finally begun. Speculation about things that are absurd being talked about. Nolan will not replace Capers. Maybe as an addition to the staff, but Capers will be the defensive coordinator. Adding Nolan as a defensive consultant wouldn't hurt as long as he and Capers can work together though. That I could see. In fact, that I would like if they can co-exist.

That Nolan would be hired as nothing more than a defensive consultant is just as much as a stretch as him being hired by the Pack as a DC, if you ask me.

He'll have a job as a DC again soon enough. I'm pretty sure that he coached a 4-3 in NY, as well. There are at least 20 teams who could upgrade their DC position by hiring Nolan.

I think that he'll have a job again by next week. Not with the Packers, most likely, but he won't be unemployed for too long.

It's one thing to suggest an addition, but another to suggest the removal of a coordinator/coach who brought along "his guys" and by all accounts improved the quality play of the defense.

Head Coaches add friends as "consultants" or assistant head coach/defense all the time.

My guess is Mike Nolan will do what he wants to do. If he wants to take a year off of running the show, he may go somewhere else. Cincinnati is another connection. I think Washington would be the frontrunner if they haven't addressed their coordinator spot. Mainly because of money.

Mike Nolan to interview with Dolphins for DC job

By Armando Salguero

The Denver Broncos made good on using Dolphins talent at safety, cornerback and defensive line to help the defense rise from No. 29 in 2008 to No. 7 in 2009.

Wouldn't it be ironic if the Dolphins could employ Denver's former defensive coordinator to rise from their No. 25 defensive doldrums of 2009?

Denver defensive coordinator Mike Nolan is now former Denver defensive coordinator Mike Nolan. He has "mutually decided," to split with the Broncos, according to Jay Glazer's twitter.

And I'm reporting the Dolphins plan to interview him.

beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
