McKenzie will be subject to limited waivers process

When we saw that the Saints had cut cornerback Mike McKenzie, a savvy veteran who provides depth and experience in a depleted defensive backfield, our first thought was that a team like the Bucs or the Falcons or the Panthers could tweak the Saints by making a waiver claim for the veteran defensive back, blocking New Orleans from bringing him back for the postseason.
As a league source explains it, however, cutting a player on the final Saturday of the regular season limits the teams that can make a waiver claim to teams that have qualified for the postseason.
So while a team like the Vikings or the Packers or any other playoff team may squat on McKenzie for the purposes of helping their own causes in the tournament, no non-playoff team will be able to stick it to the Saints by claiming McKenzie.
Given McKenzie's performance against the Patriots on November 30, New England might choose to claim him both for skill and for spite.
