I think it was a non-catch. The Ref messed up with the replay announcement, but I don't think he got it. Watching the replay, the left foot is the first for possession, and as the 2nd foot is coming down, the defender knocked the ball lose. I think they got it right on the field. Close though.

So the 2nd foot and defender were simultaneous?

If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball after he touches the ground, whether in the field of play, or in the end zone.

This is really simple. I am dumbfounded why so many don't get it.

I'm dumbfounded on how anyone can think that play posted is close to the Jennings 'non' TD. I remembered it like this ... Jennings, one foot, two foot, around the time the third foot (he has THREE FEET!) touches down, the defender slaps the ball out while out of bounds and drags him down.

"IronMan" wrote:

Yep, thats what happened. And thats an incomplete pass.

So even though the rule states for Possession and Touchdown that two feet while possession established, the ball can be knocked out while out of bounds and nullify the catch?

Bleh, this is why I say there are too many damn rules in the NFL. I don't think it's so much the referees as it is the enormous amount of rules.

This isn't that simple as some make it out to be. I mean, read the rules. By the definitions provided, it makes it appear this falls into a gray area.

This is a screen clip. As close as I can get on the play. The ball is coming out and the right (2nd foot) is not yet down. It is really close, and I would have called it not enough to overturn the call on the field.

IMO he was still putting the ball away when the right first came down, so the first possession foot was the left and this was almost the 2nd.

Also why IMO it is to close to overturn. Only if the Ref hadn't made that stupid going to the ground comment.

You can have possession of the ball in just your hands, if you aren't bobbling it or it's moving in your grasp. It doesn't have to be tucked away. That's the 3rd step, and the left toe is about to drag as well.
