Since when is 5 Division Titles and a Super Bowl appearance mediocre?

What does that make what McCarthy has done so far?
porky88

He's been to four NFC Championship games, three Super Bowls and won another.
He won five straight division titles in a row in Seattle.
He won another three in a row in Green Bay.
That's eight division titles.
McCarthy so far has one winning season as a Head Coach.
That's it.

Amazing how Mike McCarthy gets docked for the 6 - 10? Nothing about taking a 4 - 12 team and doubling the wins the next season though? Interesting. Yet the same thought is okay against Ted? Took a 10 win team down to a 4 win team. We can have ANY consistency at all can we? Wait, we DO have consistency! It's constantly BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD END OF THE WORLD!!

I see how it is. 13 wins, to 6, KILL HIM! 4 wins to 8 wins, bah who cares? I'm an ungreatful fan and refuse to acknowledge that stuff! KILL KILL KILL.

So quick to forget the positives, yet so quick to bash for the negatives.

This is why I admire RP so much folks. He's not afraid to look at the glass half full and dig for some positives. I always thought fans were fanatically fantastic for their team. Albeit he has a twisted way of it sometimes, lol.

I didn't major in English, but I was implying that he went to three Super Bowls and won one. If you can't interpret that then my bad. I'm well aware that he's been the Head Coach of the Packers for two Super Bowls 31 vs. Patriots and 32 vs. Broncos which he won 31 and was Head Coach the Seahawks for 40 vs. Steelers.

Where am I saying McCarthy should be fired or I guess killed? That's right kill kill kill.....

That is just ridiculous.

People are refusing to look at the question at hand because they can't look at it both ways. I'm not saying GB should fire McCarthy now. If they do good next year, he should be back period.

That's not the question of the thread.

The question is 6-10 or fewer again. McCarthy does that, he should be gone in my opinion. There aren't any excuses a second go around.

I don't think that'll happen, but it could and that's the point. Looking at it through green and gold glasses is all good, but not everything goes the way the fans always want.

So far McCarthy is an average coach. He's done good and bad like I said. I said some stuff on his poor qualities which I believe to be true. Even Tom Coughlin has done some bone-head things.

However, I do like a lot of things about McCarthy too. I like that he's not afraid to be aggressive early on in the game, has done an outstanding job with Aaron Rodgers, isn't a fool at a press conference like a Herm Edwards could be and he certainly is a great offensive coach. He's gotten production out of his offenses.

However so far he has ONE winning season yeah he did got to the NFC Title game nonstop. Not like I forgot, BUT so did Norv Turner. So has Dom Capers who by all accounts haven't done the greatest job as a HC. Again two guys who I view as great coordinators. I'd want Turner as my OC if I were building a coaching staff. He's on the shortlist. Capers is a great DC in my opinion.

Neither would be on my list to be HC.

McCarthy is up in the air. I think this year looks encouraging, but it could really go either way. This is kind of the make or break year for him when you think about it.

Notice there was no name in the quote and I didn't mention you once. In fact, I (am assuming it was you) didn't even know who said that or if it was copied from somewhere else.

It was a response to what I've been reading non stop. It gets annoying at times when people just won't even consider the other spectrum. Not saying the NEED to, but just as they refuse to, I have the right to be annoyed by it.

Going to the Championship game doesn't mean a whole lot to me. Four HC's do that every year. It's a heckuva good thing yes, but I'm not going to say Andy Reid is an elite HC because he went to what... four in a row?

What I am saying is this. If you knock a guy for something, give credit where it's due as well.

edit, read the rest of porky's post. Good stuff, other than the first paragraph of junk. You're one who consistently looks at things from all angles and gives a great perception and also insight. Obviously, I wasn't implying you.

Wait so slick is zero?

The kill-kill-kill thing is what got me fired up. Still does. I just think that's ridiculous know matter what someone is saying.

Nobody as far as I see is even calling for McCarthy to be fired. It's all speculation of course, but no way does this team look like a six win team right now. Obviously I'm kind of the outspoken one in this thread on this topic so it's safe to assume my critique of McCarthy is rubbing some the wrong way especially the more optimistic people which is find, but come on Holmgren (thanks for the spell check iron 🙂 ) is going to be honored in Green Bay one day. That's a lock.

Saying McCarthy is not as good of a coach as Holmgren isn't pushing it and I think some view that as a dis of McCarthy. Not at all, not many Holmgren's out there at all. He's one of the best coaches in the last 20 years.

Belichick, Parcells, Cowher and Holmgren. That's how I look at the 90's and 00's off the top of my head.

For the record, it's tough to find a coach I'd want more than Andy Reid in the NFC of the current coaches. He's up there. I think he's great. It's one thing to go to the NFC Title game, but consistently doing that, is pretty impressive in my opinion.

Same reason why Marv Levy is also a great coach and Marty Schottenheimer too. Another guy who hasn't won the big one so I don't think the Super Bowl is what puts Holmgren over the top, it's consistently winning and that's mainly my point with him and throw Reid in there as well. I think people take for granted doing that good of job consistently.

As for the kill kill statement, it's true. Some dislike Ted so now everything he does wrong they just pounce the hell out of him for it. It bugs me. It's as if since every move he makes doesn't turn out golden he needs to be blasted for it. And the good he does, its chalked up as 'well you gotta get one right sometimes'.

I don't think McCarthy should be fired. I'd like to see a good improvement from the Packers, win wise this season. I'm still hell bent on that we need at least one playoff win, at least.

I agree, Holmgren is a helluva a HC and I don't think McCarthy is in that class at all. Hopefully he surpasses Holmgren in the future with the Packers.

No argument with Bellichick (is that right? lol), Parcells, Cowher and Holmgren of the '90s. I'd throw Levy in there too.

One thing I for some reason like about Reid, he's never fired a member of his staff and is still successful. To me that says he makes good hires. I can't say that for McCarthy. I don't think Holmgren fired any of his staff during his time with GB. I don't KNOW that for sure though. It's a guess based on my memory.

This is very fair.

I'm a very "results driven" person. So far his record is 8-8 + 14-4 + 6-10. That's 28-22. Better than average.

So remains to be seen.

We'll have to revisit this at the end of the this season.

Look. I like Mike Holmgren. I know the guy is a good coach.

The fact is, however, he has been extremely mediocre in Seattle over the last 10 years and had only one very outstanding season there and that just is what it is.

People want to look way back past that to the years he was here and it was good but that was a LONG time ago.

All I know is I watched Mike McCarthy slam down those headphones at the end of that Bears game and knew right where his mindset was in terms of what he was going to do about it.

Mike Holmgren walked off that field last year and looked like a guy that needed to go into a deep forest somewhere for a very, very long time.

I know which guy I want out there.
