I have never been attracted to the "sign a big name guy" mentality. I would much rather see an improvement in the way the team develops the guys that we draft. It takes longer but it's the best way to build a franchise that can be successful over a long period of time. Hopefully all of the defensive and str/conditioning coaches we hired this offseason can get it done. I think it was the right way to go.

Sorry Steve i have to disagree on this one, that was the way to do it back in the 70's and 80's when there wasn't a free agency, that just don't work in this day and age. With free agency you will always be losing players to it no matter what so if we stay with the Ted Thompson plan we will always be rebuilding IMO.

What are you basing this on? Take a look at the Depth chart of the Steelers or Giants. Most of their starters are players that they drafted. A lot of them aren't even high draft picks.

Good point but it says a lot more than just what is on the surface.
The bottom line is you can compare the rosters of NE and Pitt vs. GB all day long but in the end it comes back to one thing.........TALENT
Some on here act like they declare the SB winner by how many "drafted guys" you have starting or on the roster or by the amount of cap space. It doesn't matter and those that think it does are looking for a "get out of jail" free card for TT.
I hear......look how many starters we have that were drafted by Ted. Well, when you go 6-10 who in the hell cares.
I hear......look at how many guys he has resigned. Yet, those pieces obviously are not enough or we would have least seen the playoffs last year.
I hear.......We are in good shape cap wise. Ok great, what is the trophy we receive for that?
If Ted's goal or approach is to build from within with young, cheap talent then he obviously has done a lackluster job of talent evaluation.
Talent.....What it all comes down to. Every guy in the league has "potential" but true talent is a whole different thing. Via the draft, FA, or signing street FA's it all comes down to Talent.
Either Ted's to cheap to improve the team via FA or he is a mediocre evaluator of talent. Just because he calls the shots and CHOOSES to field a team made up of primarily his players means nothing if those said players chalk up a 6-10 record.
