Every year since Ted Thompson took over, the rumors fly, in the end Ted Thompson has been very frugil with his decisions during FA.

He has done a pretty good job of resigning current roster players, and did make a couple of splashes in year two.

There really isn't any reason to believe that Ted Thompson will sign many more players, it has not been his style.

Looking at the available players in the draft, I don't see too many that can make an immediate contribution to the team with The Packers drafting at #9.
Most everyone knows the draft is a crap shoot after the first 4 or 5 players go off the board, this year especially.

Does Ted Thompson go after another d-lineman at #9?, maybe take a chance with M. Jenkins, even though he had a very unimpressive showing at the combine.

What about one of the O-lineman who are rated high on most boards?

I truly believe that Ted Thompson will try and find a team to trade down with, but not real positive that there will be any takers.

IMHO if stuck @ #9, why not go offense with Knowshon Moreno?
I do believe this guy will be a stud running back in the future and could give The Packers immediate help as Third down back and the succesor to R. Grant in a couple of years.

The NFL is a copy cat league and the 2-back system seems to be the "in thing" right now, with Moreno The Packers would be set on offense.

Converting to the 3-4 is going to be hard enough for The Defense, unless ther is a stud D-lineman available at #9, which I don't think there will be, load up the offense!!!

Interesting analysis of the #9 pick

while I agree moreno may be a good pick - IMO we already have 4 good backs ... I personally like wynn and jackson more then the others.

Wasnt jenkins unimpressive showing at the combine just due to his 40 time? While important his coverage skills is what is more sought after.

I agree about the Oline addition - I wouldnt mind a good Oline pick at #9; its just a matter of whom will be available at the 9 spot. If andre is I would be REALLY apprehensive if Ted were to pick him.
... although maybe Harrell would have a lunch buddy then to hang with

Our current roster may be able to handle most of the D needs and perhaps this is why Ted Thompson isnt getting more via FA. The D staff will have to figure that out.

I personally would like another DE in the FA or perhaps a decent Olineman - that way we could focus on other needs during the draft. But Ted Thompson probably wants one that is way cheap and who knows if he will find one.

Wahle and Rivera definitely hurt us the most.

I've been all over the place regarding what we need to do with the #9 pick. First I wanted a 3-4 OLB, then a NT, then thought an OT would be the smart move...

I think if Raji is there, we HAVE to take him, and if he isn't, we need to grab another serviceable NT somewhere (Brace? FA?). I have to imagine Pickett will at the very least need someone to sub in for him at NT, and if he goes down with an injury as it stands right now, our 3-4 is done.

and Thompson did not have the kind of money to keep them. I know Brandt came out and said it would have been possible but he was talking theory in that you could always make moves and free up the money.

What that would have meant was getting rid of other good players being paid what they needed to free up in order to resign these two.

So Ted Thompson was stuck in a place where you lose two or more to gain two. In otherwords between a rock and a hardplace. People don't seem to remember the Packers were OVER the cap until these guys left and even then only had like 2mil to work with.

Well, I remember that and as much as I liked Wahle and Rivera, it was the right move at the time. So credit goes to Ted Thompson here.

The problem is it hasn't been fixed since. So credit gets taken away from Ted Thompson here.

Insert MM's inability to keep them at their respective positions while actually making them practice three different positions for many weeks. I definitely put some on Ted as I've stated earlier, but Mike McCarthy should take most of the blame on the lack of development on the o-line.

Sorry Wils...

I understand the being moved around, but can you honestly say the ones that have replaced Marco or Mike are on the same talent level?

that is an ISSUE that falls on Teds head

I don't know if we can make that judgment. Maybe some potential is being unrealized by playing musical chairs so much.
