What exactly does the 'stupidity' of the commissioner have to do with the Williams fighting back?

A Minnesota judge says they should be able to play until everything settles or whatever. Yeah, that's not biased! lmao

Well, considering their argument.. I'd say the judge is in the right.

I'm surprised none of the Saints are going for this same type of action.

i STILL go back to the fact that all these "supplements" should be avoided at all costs by these players - why they don't understand that is beyond me! when i'm making what THEY'RE making, before i take ANYTHING i'm calling my coaches, trainers, hell i'm callin goodell!!!

it'd just be friggin nice if just ONCE somebody took responsibility for what they did instead of playing the blame game.

FROM ESPN:

Posted by ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert

"Early Wednesday, I started making a list of all the bizarre, you-only-see-this-once bits of drama I covered during nine seasons on the Minnesota Vikings beat.

Former Vikings WR Randy Moss caught some heat for "mooning" the Lambeau Field crowd.
There was Randy Moss nudging a traffic cop with his car, which was later found to have marijuana in the ash tray.

Onterrio Smith and the Whizzinator.

Dennis Green agreeing to a contract buyout, running practice, and then announcing his departure during his daily media briefing in 2001.

Koren Robinson driving 110 miles per hour down a state highway to make training camp curfew.

Moss "mooning" Lambeau Field during a 2005 playoff game.

Moss declaring a few days later that he would pay the resulting fine with "straight cash," and suggesting that next time he would shake a different body part in front of the crowd.

The Vikings missing their turn in the first round of the 2003 draft.

Personnel director Fran Foley getting fired in 2006 after three months on the job; he had exaggerated his resume and threatened staffers with a "bloodbath" after the draft.

The more time I spent with the list, the more I realized how historically insignificant the suspensions of Pat Williams and Kevin Williams actually were in Vikings off-field lore. It seemed to be standard stuff relative to this franchise.

Until, of course, a Minnesota judge took the unprecedented action Wednesday night of temporarily lifting their suspensions pending further hearings on the topic.

The NFL plans an immediate appeal, and it's conceivable both players will be "re-suspended" as early as Thursday. But as we sit here Wednesday night, about 85 hours before the Vikings' game Sunday at Detroit, no one has any idea what will happen next. Will the NFL's steroid policy be voided? Will the move ultimately force the players to miss a playoff game? Who knows?

This is the type of chaotic sideshow we've never seen in these parts.

Oh, wait. There was the time Mike Tice found out that his contract was set to expire during the 2004 season because of a clerical error. The mistake forced then-owner Red McCombs to pick up his option for 2005 amid rumors he wanted to fire Tice and hire a new coach.

It's rare that a team in the playoff chase must deal with such off-field distractions. Except for the time in 2004 when Moss walked off Washington's FedEx Field prior to the end of a one-score game. Center Matt Birk went after him in the locker room afterwards. Later that day, the Vikings earned a wild-card bid.

You couldn't come up with a story like this if you tried. Two All-Pro players going to court to take down the NFL's steroid abuse policy? Come on. It's almost like a bunch of players deciding to, I don't know, rent some boats on Lake Minnetonka, fly in some out-of-state strippers and have a party.

Oh wait, that's what happened on the Love Boat in 2005.

Birk, a St. Paul native, complained a few days later that the out-of-state invite list was an "insult to Minnesota strippers." For that smart-aleck remark, Birk went nose-to-nose with quarterback Daunte Culpepper and linebacker Keith Newman in what turned out to be heated locker room confrontation.

Ah, we don't mean to make light of the situation. The reputation of two players, not to mention about $1.5 million in salary, is at stake here. Nothing evil happened, right? Just two players trying to make weight. It's not like they were caught in a compromising situation with a naked woman in a downtown stairwell or something.

That was safety Dwight Smith. August, 2006. Remember?"

Interesting... or just a subtle jab. ;)

GREEN BAY When it comes to supplements and complying with the NFL's anti-performance enhancing drug policy, Brandon Chillar doesn't worry about anything except his aim when filling up the testing cup. [img_r]http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0bi4eRyd9o3MV/340x.jpg[/img_r]

"You just hope it's not (on) your hand," the Green Bay Packers linebacker said Wednesday.

While six other NFL players most notably Minnesota Vikings run-stuffing defensive tackles Pat and Kevin Williams aren't laughing about the four-game suspensions handed down by the league Tuesday for their violations of anti-doping rules, Chillar wasn't sympathizing, even though he's the Packers' resident "chemist" when it comes to supplements.

Chillar can often be seen mixing concoctions at his locker mostly protein shakes, carbohydrates and antioxidants but said he is very careful about what he ingests and makes sure he double-checks with the strength and conditioning staff, the athletic training staff or a Web site devoted to listing banned and acceptable substances under NFL policy.

"I take brands that are known to be OK with the NFL," said Chillar, who began experimenting with supplements while with the St. Louis Rams and said he has been tested "four or five times" this year by the league. "I pretty much know what I put into my body, and if I don't, I go ahead and check so I don't have any trouble.

"I don't know what (the Williamses and other players) did. They could've been taking illegal (stuff) and blaming it (on the manufacturer). I don't know. But that's why you have to watch what you put into your body. Because in the end, it is on you."

All six players were punished for using a diuretic, which can serve as a masking agent for steroids. In their appeals, some players said the banned substance Bumetanide was not listed as an ingredient in StarCaps, an over-the-counter weight-loss pill. Lawyers for Kevin and Pat Williams applied on Wednesday for a temporary restraining order so they can continue playing.

But in issuing the suspensions, the NFL reiterated the section of its policy that specifically states, "You and you alone are responsible for what goes into your body. Claiming that you used only legally available nutritional supplements will not help you in an appeal. ... Even if they are bought over-the-counter from a known establishment, there is currently no way to be sure that they contain the ingredients listed on the packaging or have not been tainted with prohibited substances ...

"If you take these products, you do so AT YOUR OWN RISK! For your own health and success in the league, we strongly encourage you to avoid the use of supplements altogether, or at the very least to be extremely careful about what you choose to take."

That's why Packers coach Mike McCarthy has his players check with strength coaches Rock Gullickson and Mark Lovat before taking anything that could put them at risk for suspension. The Packers' opponent this week, the Houston Texans, lost long-snapper Bryan Pittman to a four-game suspension Tuesday.

"We haven't had a problem so far," McCarthy said. "And hopefully we won't."

The Packers haven't had a player suspended for performance-enhancing drugs since linebacker Jude Waddy was suspended four games in 1998 for testing positive for steroids. According to a study conducted by the San Diego Union-Tribune this offseason, only five other Packers players have been linked to steroids: Offensive lineman Mike Wahle, who was expelled from the U.S. Naval Academy for alleged steroid use; offensive linemen Mike Ariey and Keith Uecker in 1989; offensive lineman Tony Mandarich, who recently confessed to steroid use in his biography; and offensive lineman Bill Curry in 1975.

Just read where the Vikings filed a temporary restraining order on the NFL's suspension of the Williams' which was granted by a Minnesota judge.

I don't know how to bring the article to our site here but it's on the front page of Yahoo Sports.

The NFL will fight this tooth and nail because this stuff will put the entire banned substance program upside down.

The article said it was unclear this would mean the players will be able to take the field Sunday or not.
