This is actually a great point. Green Bay probably would have gotten a fourth-round compensatory pick for him, but as you note, it would have been an extra year down the road. The standard rule of thumb is to discount a pick by round for every year out it is pushed out. By that standard, Green Bay is getting a fourth-rounder for him in 2019 instead of the equivalent of a fifth-rounder the following year. It's like Wimpy used to say:

As for the Redskins, they have to be ecstatic. They get to audition a good safety dirt cheap for the rest of the season before deciding what they want to do with him.

I have been a huge CMIII critic for the last year and a half, however… The guy busts his ass. NSD, IMHO to compare him to HHCD is grossly unfair.

And to compare and contrast, versus the Rams he had a very strong game.

Might as well say we gave him away. We got a 4th round pick that will probably be spent on a no name, no impact lineman.

On top of that, we just weakened an already weak spot on the team even worse. Throwing in the towel early I guess is what this is.
