Clay still has some juice left, but he hasn't been a great pass rusher in years. I think he could still be a great ILB though. Too bad he's not interested, it would seem. I think he could be a difference maker there for a few more years.

Clay is nothing more than a pass rush specialist at this stage of his career. If we could find a good edge seal LB for first downs, that'd be great.

I think with time and dedication (which he didn't have enough of either in the past), he would at least be as effective of an ILB as he is an OLB, and it's possible he could be better. I could also see him only being a pass rush specialist, albeit not a great one. I could see him being a decent asset for a team like New England though.

Irrespective of positions at the time of signing, at this point, given the realities of performance and age, it is not a great surprise if they did not want to continue with CMIII or Randall Cobb (or both). I personally would wait on the course of action until I see the performance for the balance of the year.
The Pro's for CMIII
- Last Two games have been had good performances (irrespective of penalties)
- He brings all he has, although its does not seem to be as much as he used to have
- He can do a lot of different things for you defensively, albeit coverage is not great
The Con's For CMIII
- He is really expensive IMO
- He consistently does NOT set a strong edge

Lets bear in mind that he, along with the others are learning a new defense.

Regardless, with strong edge rushers in the draft, I would rather have them deploy assets on both the offensive defensive lines, both in the draft and free agency. We need:
- a right guard
- a serviceable back-up OT
- 2 edge rushers
- a Safety (although arguably, you might be able to convert a corner)

If either guy is here next year, IMO it should be at lower $$ and in the case of CMIII significantly lower $$$

buckeyepackfan (6h) : That brings up the question, why wasn't Nixon down by contact? I think that was the point Kanata was making.

dfosterf (24-Jan) : I'm going with a combination of the two.

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
