For a long time I have not been real happy with the rules for a safety. The rules were created when the NFL was a run first league. When there were not so many rules favoring the passing game. When the field could often be a quagmire of mud or at least had a greater resemblance to a cow pasture than a football field.

The owners have made so many changes to the rules why not have the team that got sacked kick from the 35 instead of the 20? As it stands teams the team that gets the 2 points for the sack will end up with a FG or TD as well. That is a bit more than what the original rule makers perceived.

The rules have favored the offense so much in recent years, why take away more from the defense? It's so damn hard to get a safety as is, I have no problem with rewarding a team that's able to pull it off.

I HATE the safety rules... I mean it's the hardest way to score, yet puts the least amount of points on the scoreboard? That's compete BS! I mean even a FG is worth more than a safety!...

I think safeties should be worth four points and then the offense team has to a kick it to the defensive team...

Or (and I think I prefer this idea) just go ahead and make a safety equal a touch down and the defensive team gets 6 points and a PAT chance and then kick it off.

We shouldn't have been penalized for making a good play on the INT.

First of all, no one touched him, how is he down? Second of all, momentum carried him into the end zone. Ball should have been at the 20.

If he's touched at the 1 while down it's at the 1 but if he's not touched at the 1 and rolls into the end zone and touched it still goes back to the 1. I guess what bothers me about the this is the offensive player or players have an opportunity to down the player before he goes into the end zone so IMO if the defensive players momentum takes them into the end zone it should be a touchback.

That would be consistent with the rules of the game.

I might also add the rule is contrary to the touchback rules when downing a punt. If the ball is carried into the endzone by a players momentum that is a touchback.

I guess I just never knew there was a rule where a player with the ball is actually considered down without ever being touched. It was a hell of a play and a hell of a catch and regardless of the safety it penalized the team greatly and there is no other rule remotely close to this.

He WAS touched... IN THE END ZONE! After gaining possession BEFORE the end zone.

So it's either a Safety or the one yard line... I'll take the one yard line over giving up a Safety right away...

IMO if the defensive players momentum takes them into the end zone it should be a touchback.

Zero2Cool (42m) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (42m) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (2h) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (3h) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (4h) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (4h) : Thank you
wpr (4h) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (4h) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (4h) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (4h) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (4h) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (5h) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (5h) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (5h) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (5h) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (6h) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (23h) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (23h) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (23h) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Bears are finalizing a deal to hire Ben Johnson as their head coach. (via @tompelissero )
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Looks like Lions OC Ben Johnson is going to be the Bears coach
