I think the Packers will make a trade, but it will be out of the 1st round.

I think instead of trading our players for a shot at a pass rusher, we should send our second rounder to Miami for Cameron Wake. He's pissed they won't give him a new contract. Last time we played the Fish, Wake turned our Bulaga whale into a flounder.

Greg Jennings namely and they are probably going to re-do Aaron Rodgers soon, plus they have to re-sign Clay Matthews III.

Christ, Wake would solve our pass rushing problem, but yeah we should just dick around with drafting potential instead of a sure thing. We got lucky with Matthews, but I doubt that happens again.

I understand Cameron Wake is more valuable to the Packers than a 2nd round pick, potentially, but what about the salary he's going to take? You can't spend your dollars twice, which means you sign Cameron Wake instead of ... ??? I think the only of those three mentioned the Packers could get by with out is Greg Jennings.

Again, you cannot spend the salary cap twice. Once you spend 100 million, you don't get to spend another 100 million. Last time I had to explain this was to my ex girlfriend after she wrote out the rent check, then went on a spending spree because "well honey the money was there... i dunno".

We won a SB because we played our best football down the stretch. That doesn't negate the fact that Green Bay's offense is more dangerous WITH Finley than without him. Do we really need to revisit the ways he is used in the offense and the matchup problems it creates for opposing defenses? That's SOOOO 2011.

I'll eat his drops -- which aren't unique, but rather unfortunately endemic of Green Bay skill position players -- if it means we get all the other bonuses. Yeah, his numbers aren't through the roof, but it we are also a buhjillion deep at receiving options. Finley is a stud.

Yeah, I understand where you are coming from. I know how he presents matchup problems. My thinking is that sometimes, or rather, most often, you have to give up something to get something.

I personally think we would be better served, adding 2 top flight pass rushers in this draft, and letting go of a guy who I like, but I think we can not only survive without, but in this case, possibly WIN OUT in this upcoming season. That's all. Finley is indeed a stud. Because of that, he would be very, very attractive to all of those teams in need of help at their skill positions.

I truly feel Jermichael Finley's drops were related to him trying to prove he can play a full season and trying to over perform during his contract year. I don't recall Finley having issues catching before. Finley was catching difficult passes, while dropping the easy ones and that there says it's a lack of concentration. He played a full season, has a new contract and I'm expecting him to solid this year for the Packers.

With Finley, our O rose from #6 to #1. The 2010 team > 2011 team and the difference was the lack of pass rush.

With hopes, I'm with Play2Win. I don't see it happening though unfortunately. Everyone wants to keep their elite pass rushers as the secret is out - you can beat an elite passing team with an elite pass rush. Everyone in the NFL knows that now.

As with many other elite QBs, I feel as if Aaron Rodger's could take a lesser receiving core and be almost as successful. Sacrifice a bit for the offense and put that money into having a top 5 defense and I think we would be a much better team. I understand it's much easier said than done, but it's just a thought. I know Thompson wants to surround Rodger's with weapons, which is great, but it shouldn't be at the expense of the defense. Thompson seems to be a WR guru, so I'm confident we could maintain a solid receiving core and have a potent offense without having huge salaries at every position. Sacrifice one weapon on offense and add an equal player to the defense and I think the Packers improve.

If it was only so easy as waving a magic wand. Is it Thursday yet (draft time)???

As the comment above says, Aaron Rodgers can make lesser TE better. I wouldn't object to the proposed trade of a 2nd rounder for Cameron Wake. I'm saying it won't happen because of money. However, trading Finley for Wake is much more likely because you get some cap relief in trading Finley, right? I'm assuming he's on the books for about $7 million when I'm saying this, lol.

Zero2Cool, that is the other component that makes trading one of our existing players attractive for GB. A bit of cap relief will come in handy when trying to extend/resign Matthews, Jennings, Rodgers, Raji - all of whom I think we should try to keep. If that means we lose Finley or Jones, or both, and add a top DE or OLB in the draft, well that seems like a win-win.

I like Finley and Jones, both of them. I just am looking at it from a perspective of "what do we have that other teams want, that won't hurt us too badly to part with." Have to admit, even with Quarless out, we still have 3 TEs besides Finley. Most years we carried 3 on the roster until they shifted to 5 and ditched the extra RB/FB for special teams core players.

Not saying it has to happen either. We could conceivably land two or three great pass rushers without trade straight up if Ted can pick them right. I don't know how they have the players stacked either, and I wouldn't presume to know. Maybe there is no one worth making a move like this, but I kind of doubt that. If we go to camp with all of our WRs and let DD retire, wow. We will still be very, very formidable on O. Add the right players where we need them on D and we can make the run. Either way, I'll be happy, only as long as they add the pass rush we need. He has the picks and players to make many moves that would better insure we get who we want.

I don't know where you're going with that, but all I'm saying is, I'd rather the Packers drop $7 million a year on a solid pass rusher than an elite TE. Bringing up James Jones as trade bait when as a free agent no one wanted him, doesn't really do much for your angle, lol.

Good point on B.J. Raji, he's also a core player that will need to be resigned either this year or next. I had forgot about him.
