Some of you seem to think it's the end of the world if Finley doesn't come back.

Let's set the record straight. We won the SB without him.

With Finley out of the line-up, 🇦🇷 spreads the ball around more. He doesn't focus so much on Finley. Our O last year wasn't as good points wise, but it stayed on the field. It was still an elite O. It just wasn't the #1 O.

The focus on the off season needs to be on D, not O. I was wrong this year to think that the O could have carried this team all the way. I see it now.

D needs to be the #1 priority. If Finley wants too much money, let him walk. We'll need to spend that $$$ on D.

Everybody here knows that Ted builds around the draft. We're a good team. We're picking in the bottom 10. Those guys don't make a lot of money, especially in this post-lockout era where there are no more $50 mil guarantees.

Ted isn't going to draft with the expectation of his players making an immediate impact. So if we're going to invest on anything, it's the strength of this team.

I could be wrong and Ted might sign Mario Williams, but I'm not going to rely on that. And I could be wrong. After all, Bill Belichick built around the draft too... and then all of a sudden there was that one year where he signed Jason Taylor, Wes Welker, traded for Randy Moss, and all sorts of aggressive stuff; it's not out of the question.

If we get rid of Finley and spend money on places worth spending... fine. But if we get rid of Finley only to go about the same shit every year drafting players who won't be starters for another 3 years, then I'd be frustrated.

The window of opportunity is open NOW.

If one is attempting to specifically fill a need, it should likely be done via free agency.

One way to "draft for need" I suppose is by trading up and getting a guy that absolutely fills the hole and is incredibly talented. That's risky to start trading away picks, but it could be effective. Perhaps, as you stated, we will see something like that again this year. Or ever better, some type of magic trade for Flynn/Finley/James Jones. It should be an interesting season. I expect to be in serious contention for the super bowl next season.

Wouldn't JJ Watt look nice in green and gold? heh heh.

You CAN get guys with immediate impact from drafts. Plus, let's not rule out 🇹🇹 making a trade.

So the question I have for you is purely hypothetical. Let's say YOU are Ted, and another team wants Finley. They offer a studly defender for Finley. Do you pull the trigger?

After the 2nd round you get into a situation of needing best player available no matter what position.

You move Wood to safety with Burnett, Davon House gets moved up to nickel corner. You use the first and second picks on either an OLB or DE. Always use your free agent money for your own players first, so we sign up Finley a keep the offense in tact. I doubt Mario Williams is an option for Green Bay, but our Dline does need some restocking. But priority number one has to be finding Clay's bookend, cause we can't play this defense without that player.

However, I disagree with the Packers not drafting for impact in the draft. They constantly grab rookies and plug them in as starters. It hasn't happen as much this year because the team is better than year's past, but I would not be shocked to see two rookies starting on the defensive side of the football next year. Remember, Bryan Bulaga started as a rookie and Morgan Burnett would've started as a rookie if he didn't get hurt. We'll have rookie starters next season, especially with a fairly strong draft.

I see Finley getting the franchise tag if they don't work out a deal. I don't think there is anyway he isn't a Packer next year. I agree with blueleopard that he opens up routes for the other receivers. If the receivers were having trouble getting open yesterday (and they were), just imagine how hard it will be for them with no Finley. He's too valuable to let go.

dfosterf (7h) : Nick Nieman from Texans our 5th linebacker. Special teams signing
TheKanataThrilla (8h) : Looks like we signed Clayton Tune as QB3
wpr (8h) : TKT people lose their minds over QB3. Point is almost none of them are ready that's why they are on the PS and other teams don't take them.
TheKanataThrilla (9h) : Unfortunately he doesn't seem ready to be an emergency QB.
TheKanataThrilla (9h) : As a Canadian and a follower of Canadian University football. I am rooting for him
dfosterf (9h) : I bet a lot of us will follow the Taylor Elgersma journey with interest. Personally, got a Kurt Warner vibe goin' on. I like him
TheKanataThrilla (9h) : Not sure if either will be claimed though.
TheKanataThrilla (9h) : Tune or Hooker would make sense
dfosterf (9h) : Clayton Tune cut by the Cards? Don't know if that's the guy, we shall see
TheKanataThrilla (10h) : Per Bill Huber, the Packers will not be bringing back Taylor Elgersma or Sean Clifford on the practice squad, so a new third quarterback
Mucky Tundra (10h) : Schefter must have deleted his tweet
dfosterf (11h) : Hopefully Jerry reaches under the seat cushions and ashtrays of his jet and scrapes up the 45 million apr and spares us further nonsense

Zero2Cool (12h) : If you hear rumors about Packers sign or trade, won't happen. Not how they work
