Rod Woodson and Ronnie Lott both switched from cornerback to safety. I think Ronnie did it earlier in his career. Rod did it in I believe it was '94 (32 yrs old?)

I guess what I'm saying is: Adding Asomugha to a Capers-designed defense would be cool. Adding Asomugha to a non-Capers defense with the Packers current personnel would probably not work.

So you're saying any other DC having Williams, Woodson, Shields and Asomugha along with Collins wouldn't be able to make it work? Sorry, but if that's true, then that person shouldn't be a DC. lol.

I actually could see the Packers use Woodson more as a linebacker /cb to be honest with you. Let him roam from side to side like he has been doing and think of it this way. The way the NFL Quarterback is changing from pocket passers to running qbs wouldn't be nice to have a guy just sit there and run down a qb or be able to cover a rb out of the backfield?
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

In order to sign him we'd have to have 3 of the highest paid corners in the league. Remember both tramon and charles just got raises. edit: so I probably should have read more of the thread before i posted.

It's an interesting question. Would you rather have the best secondary in the league or the best defensive line in the league?

Remember, Mike McCarthy has stated repeatedly that he wants to make this a defense-oriented team. Maybe spending a few extra bucks on an elite cornerback would be congruent with that goal.

Either gives you options..

If you have an elite line.. you can do more in terms of coverage packages because you can drop more back with your line still creating pressure.

If you have an elite secondary.. you can set them on islands.. and dial up pressure packages with the lesser talent up front.

Personally in our scheme.. we don't have to have an elite line.. we have to have effective pass rushing linebackers with a defensive line that biggest job is to chew up blockers. But with Raji in the middle, Jolly returning, Jenkins healthy we have one better than that.. guys that can push the pocket from the inside.

A guy like NA is a luxury that we don't need.. but if added.. we could very well challenge for a once in a decade type dominant defense if healthy.. we have that type of talent on this team.

To your question.. I would win it at the line.. if you control the line of scrimmage.. in most games you control the game and eventually wear out the opposition.

The Packers have to start to look at life after Woodson.
On face value this would be the ideal way.

Cuts to make to help pay the freight: Justin Harrell, Bigby, Pat Lee, Underwood, just to name 4.

I certainly don't expect such a big signing but I sure would like it.

It would be extraordinarily awesome if we were to somehow get him in free agency. I am a HUGE believer in CB's through FA vs. the draft. Actually, I am also a believer in CB's through UDFA's (a mess of them) vs. the draft.

You draft one, you really don't know what you got, at least not that much more than multiple tries through UDFA's--imo

It'll never, ever happen. Not with Ted. We play this game (fans) every year.

I'm good with it, In Ted I trust, etc. There is a LOT to be said about the locker room aspect, also.

I guess I would sum it up by saying that if Ted were to shock us, this would be a nice "shock" to have... throw the Packer faithful a huge off-season "speculation-crumb" to gnaw over for an off-season :thumbleft: if we get one of those--off seasons--, CBA-wise.

I'll start it-- With him I might not be freaking as much when Dom does his 3 man rush, lol

Then I guess it's settled and we can move on. :thumbleft:

I went ahead and looked--

He had NO interceptions (hosed him for incentives)

NO fumble recoveries (hosed him for incentives)

NO sacks (hosed him for incentives)

FAILED to log as much time as 2009 (hosed him for incentives)

He does get hurt.

...A couple of semi-pesky details, though. I think I heard that opponents only threw his way like 33 times this year-- I could be wrong about that, I just seem to remember that number.

I did read that he was charged with 10 receptions for a total of 166 yards this year, with zero TD's.

My memory is bad, but it seems like Ahmad Carrol had worse numbers in a half once, lol
