Packers activate Starks, release Francois

The Green Bay Packers activated rookie running back James Starks from the physically unable to perform list Tuesday and released linebacker Robert Francois to make room on the roster.

Starks, who was selected by the Packers in the sixth round of the 2010 draft (193rd overall) out of Buffalo, has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since August. He finished his career at Buffalo as the school's all-time rushing leader with 3,140 yards in three seasons, even though he missed his senior season after needing shoulder surgery in August 2009.

He tweaked his right hamstring in conditioning early in training camp.

Starks adds depth to a running back unit that has been down to Brandon Jackson and John Kuhn since Ryan Grant was lost for the season in Week 1.

Francois, who was signed to the active roster off the practice squad Oct. 13, played in three games.

The Packers also released safety Michael Greco from the practice squad.

Harris clears: The National Football Post reported that veteran cornerback Al Harris, who was released by the Packers Monday, cleared waivers.

According to the report, Harris' agent, Jack Bechta, was in negotiations with multiple teams. He declined to reveal them.

YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK maybe this is a slight over-reaction, but I CAN'T HELP IT! IT'S FANTASTIC!!!! Haha all kidding aside though, he is a rookie who has not played for awhile, and it'll be interesting to see how he does for us. Should be fun to watch the kid develop!

Interesting move to keep Nance in the line-up. Perhaps we are attempting to take Kuhn out of the RB depth chart by having 3 other guys in there (Jackson, Nance, and now Starks [HEYO!!]).

Harris clears waivers. Also interesting. I hooooooooope he doesn't go to the Vikings haha. Whether or not he would help them, I just never want to see a cheesehead in purple. EVER.

Nice, thought for SURE he'd end up with the Queens. Maybe he actually wants a shot at a ring.

I think taking Kuhn out of the rotation for a joker of a runner like Nance would make no sense. We don't know that Starks can actually do anything, and I guess we are willing to give Nance some more opportunities before cashing that one out. So just a decent no nonsense personnel move that if doesn't work out didn't hurt the team any. Hoping BOTH Nance and Starks can contribute in some form or fashion.

NEVER thought he'd go to the AFC. Interesting. And awesome that he didn't go to the Vikings. He isn't a friggin traitor. Love it.

The Miami Dolphins have signed veteran cornerback Al Harris to a one-year deal, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Harris was waived by the Green Bay Packers on Monday. He cleared waivers on Tuesday and was free to sign with any team.

The 35-year-old Harris is nearly a year removed from his season-ending left knee injury last November. He began this season on the Packers' physically unable to perform list and returned to practice Oct. 19, giving the Packers a three-week timeline to decide his future.

Harris started all 102 games he played in for the Packers over seven seasons (2003-09) after being acquired from Philadelphia. He had 14 interceptions and 108 passes defensed during his time in Green Bay.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Tezzy-- That certainly would be the best thing, if they could both contribute! I think Nance has a way to go, and as of right now, obviously we have no idea where Starks is at. Kuhn does mix it up a bit, and its a lot of fun seeing Kuhn, Hall, and Johnson all in the backfield. Thats a lot of meat back there(cue the "that's what she said" jokes)!

I'm surprised that anyone is surprised Al Harris cleared waivers. No team wanted to take the risk of being on the hook for his entire (prorated) $2.5 million salary when they could have him for a song if and when he cleared waivers.

Of course "activated" is not the same as "made the game day roster."
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
