I don't have a lot of hope that he'll be tearing up the league any time soon, but maybe he's our runner of the future.

As Siefert mentioned, it speaks volumes that the Packers held on to Starks while letting Harris go.

And who knows? Samkon Gado ran like a demon for a few weeks, too...

This isn't a criticism against you, Since 69, just a comment that I think the Harris v Starks comparision isn't accurate...I feel these were two independent decisions that came down to:

Harris: Reliable vet/leader...but...old, bad knee, young talent on roster, no ST

Starks: No depth at position, young, could do ST, evaulate future potential.

Does Nance provide anything that Johnson/Kuhn/Hall don't? Correct me if I'm wrong, but he's essentially another big slow fullback only Nance has marginal blocking skills.

I'm being a debbie downer here, but I don't have many expectations for Starks either. He was activated because the other option was IR, so that doesn't say much or imply he'll be the savior that some of us (to an extent myself included) are hoping he'll become.

I thought Nance was a RB not FB.

He is, you're right...I'm just saying I see him more as the Ron Dayne/Brandon Jacobs/bowling ball with feet mold. I don't see how he brings any more to the table than our 3 fbs. This is more of a thought than a suggestion...based on this logic, I should be excited that we're activating Starks, and I am, I just have limited expectations for what he'll accomplish.

Ahhh.
I don't see Nance as providing much to the running game either. He was an emergency fill in but that is about it.

Musccy-- Better to have low expectations and be blown away than huge expectations and disappointed (especially yearly, like the Vikings fans)!!

There was a Calvin and Hobbes sketch once where Calvin celebrated getting a "D" on a paper, and Susie asked him why he was so excited. He replied, "because I find life much easier when I create low expectations for myself." (or something to that effect - couldn't find it via google)

Anyway, part of my cynicism is due to this 🙂

McCarthy: Starks competing for playing time
Posted by Mike Vandermause November 15th, 2010, 2:36 pm

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said that although rookie running back James Starks has missed a lot of football, hes competing for playing time now that hes on the 53-man roster.

Starks was elevated to the roster from the physically unable to perform list after missing all of training camp and a portion of the offseason workouts.

McCarthy said at his press conference today that Starks has a lot to learn and needs to work on details in his game, but hes a talented back and theres a reason the Packers promoted him.

I hate to be negative, but why do I have this feeling that Starks is going to blow out a knee or something in his very first game? He just seems to have Eddie Lee Ivery and DeShawn Wynn written all over him. Sorry to be so dark. I just had to put that bad thought out there instead of repressing it.
