I think if a player on IR takes a physical and passes, the team has to release them. I don't know for sure and that's just me trying to piece together a few things I've heard.

Green could be that mid-season pick-up that is comparable to Sherman picking up Grady Jackson off waivers from the Saints back in '03. A guy who was let go due to conditioning issues and makes a good impact for his new team wanting to prove his doubters wrong. He at least provides and experienced 3-4 backup at NT behind Raji while Pickett remains on the shelf nursing his ankle.

I love this guy he's HUGE.I was very surprised that he came out on the field so soon but he made some impact. We needed a backup NT and he's another big body to have.

He got penetration on that wildcat play were I think he caused a reverse hand off to fumble on Jerricho Cotchery. He looks to be a great run stuffer I love to see Raji get a break now and then, than he used to taking a hell of a lot of snaps a game and green looks reliable at NT when Raji is is gassed.

I found this interesting article:

http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/2593/the-real-story-on-howard-green

According to team sources, the Jets issued an ultimatum to Green during the bye week: Meet your prescribed weight or else. Green returned from the bye at 375 pounds, according to source -- and he was fired last Tuesday. The following day, he was claimed on waivers by Green Bay.

Lo and behold, Green was in uniform Sunday for the Packers and played a significant numbers of snaps. He finished with two tackles. His signature moment came in the fourth quarter, when he disrupted a reverse to WR Jerricho Cotchery that resulted in an 8-yard loss.

I know the rule is that a player, once placed on IR, cannot play for a minimum of four games. He also cannot play again that season for the team placing him on IR. Apparently, if he is cut, he can be picked up by another team and play for them, provided the requisite four weeks have passed. However, I have yet to find this stated explicitly anywhere. I am simply drawing inferences from the rules as I know them.

I think Green ate Grady Jackson, thus consuming his power. Just a theory.
William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.
