Kind of apples and oranges. Cowher's teams were always consistent. McCarthy's team has been more inconsistent than anything else. I see more John Fox or Jack Del Rio in McCarthy than I do Cowher.

McCarthy's teams have had consistently ranked top-10 offenses (yeah, yeah, it's not workin' too well this year).

Cowher also got them close to the promise land several times and couldn't push it in. In the event McCarthy's Packers make the playoffs but not a Super Bowl, I doubt we'd let him stick around.
William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.

Bill Cowher's teams were consistent in the sense that he lead them to the playoffs 10 out of the 15 years he was in Pittsburgh. However, those years were not without their wrinkles.

They went 9-7 twice (1993 and 2000).

They went 8-8 once (2006).

They went 7-9 once (1998).

They went 6-10 twice (1999 and 2003).

They appeared in two Super Bowls during that 15-year period (1995 and 2005), winning one (2005).

Let me say that again. They won one Super Bowl in 15 years -- Cowher's second-to-last year in Pittsburgh!

All you people clamoring for Bill Cowher make me laugh. Would you accord him that same patience you currently refuse to give Mike McCarthy?

McCarthy's gone? Is he injured, too?

The playcalling is not the problem. It's the execution. How many dropped passes today?

The only playcalling I have a problem with is the damned Hail Mary's before halftime. I absolutely hate that. If you're down by more than 2 TDs then sure, go ahead. Otherwise, run a friggin' draw play.

Don't get me wrong - I'm pissed we lost today, but I can't blame this on McCarthy.

Look, I'm not calling for McCarthy's head or anything. However, I think Cowher is a Hall of Fame coach. McCarthy isn't. Maybe he is later on, but certainly he has to accomplish a lot before we mention him in the same mold as Cowher. I would hope he feels the same way.

For the record, I'm talking wins and losses. McCarthy has gone 8-8, 13-3, 6-10, 11-5 and now 3-2 right now. Personally, Green Bay looks like a seven or eight win team right now. Who knows what could happen.

Cowher coached the Steelers to six AFC Championship games and two Super Bowls.

His teams went to the playoffs 10 times, including six consecutive times at the start of his tenure there.

He also had multiple non-winning seasons. But yes, his record of six consecutive trips to the playoffs at the beginning of his career is almost unparalleled in NFL history. I think only one other coach has done it.

All of you Steelers fans on this board who want Cowher should keep in mind he was with the Steelers for 13 years before a Super Bowl win. So, in that case maybe we should give McCarthy 9 more years.

Also, I hate every single one of you who wants Mike McCarthy gone at the beginning of every season.

I hate it when they look like crap at the beginning of every season. And usually at the beginning of every game too. Today, for instance.

My point wasn't to say McCarthy is a poor coach, but rather to point out that Cowher is a great head coach. He's probably top five of the last 20 years.

The guys I've compared McCarthy to aren't bad coaches. John Fox has been in the Super Bowl as well as two NFC Championship games. He's not a bad coach and his team is 0-5 right now. But he's not Bill Cowher and neither is Mike McCarthy. Doesn't mean McCarthy can't be Cowher like one day. I am much more skeptical of him now than I was going into the season though.

With that said, McCarthy does learn from what transpires early in the season well. He then takes that information and uses it to utilize appropriate game plans for the final stretch. It is frustrating though that it takes him awhile to figure it out.

I hope your right. That streak last year seemed to be the players rallying around him more than anything else.
