Beast asked;

And the big pass play that Nixon gave up...

Was that not when he was in the WRs face and simply got juked and not when back 10+ yards?

This is what happens when you have a 4th string CB on a receiver. There should have been help over the top, but probably someone blew their assignment.

Do they take into consideration that they are playing for a TD or FG? What about time left and timeouts remaining?

For a TD, it makes sense. For a FG with a min and a half and timeouts remaining, makes no sense at all and im sure the fact that teams who go soft or prevent more likely allow the opposing team to get in FG range then not. U cant tell me any different. I've seen it numerous times for all teams.

The problem I have with so-called prevents is NOT that they generally play a 5 under 3 deep zone with a 3 man rush, which is understandable and defensible when the opponent needs a TD with minimal time left. However, teams should and could easily change things up by either having the 5 under guys play man and occasionally jump routes AND/OR show the 3-5-3 and blitz a DB off the QB's throwing arm

I really like what Buffalo did at the end of the Buffalo KC game, Buffalo rushed 4, but 3 where coming from Mahomes right, one rather wide) forcing him to his left. Miller was wide right rushing (Mahomes left) forcing Mahomes even further back. It was a smart approach. The back seven were in a 3 deep 4 under zone.

Regarding the Packers screw-ups, Nixon looked like he was in man (sucked at it) and thought he had help over the top. The guys who came in late were number I did not recognize and probably had their heads up their heines.

So basically we're (in general) are just patting ourself on the back for our preconceived notions as being correct, when that's not what the game film says actually happened.

So basically we're just venting because frustrated of the outcome, like the Chiefs blaming the refs for the WRs being off sides... when in reality it was the players execution at an important time of the game, and not actually the refs.

Packers are a similar situation, except it's Packers fans, instead of Chiefs. And Barry's soft coverage instead of the refs.

The coverage worked most of the game as the Giants had less than 160 yards, it's that they couldn't stop the run which got the Giants 200+ yardage.

Though as I argued during the game, they should have had an extra man blitzing, or (and I didn't argue this during the game, but it would be a good in between) being a spy in case the QB ran it.

I dislike the cushion, but I've directed my venom to the players after hearing they're the ones choosing to play off. But coaches have to enforce them playing closer if it's what the coaches want.

I'd also like to point out that Barry and former DB coach Gray had some sort of falling out over a disagreement how to do something.

And according to Douglas, it was at the end of the year meetings that they said they wanted to play press and get into throwing windows (which Alexander seems to disagree with wanting to play off, and Alexander seemed to be pro Gray and anti-Barry in the falling out last year, though again, we have absolutely no idea what exactly that was over).

And I thought you were going to say we're seen the fans have the exact same complains about our last three DCs. So it's not the DCs but the current NFL practices that fans don't like. (Which you did, but I was expecting it to be more about play calling, not depth of CBs, though maybe that's one in the same, maybe it's not).

There is WAY too much unknown stuff in this subject, where the heck are the Packers beat writers and why aren't they getting some more clarification of these issues?

Though, as far as the Barry/Gray falling out, I think the best writers know a lot more than they're willing to say, as Barry/Gray/Packers organization seemed to be trying to keep it internally, while according to some of the writers in Twitter (or 😵, the defensive players, especially the DBs, were more than willing to talk... but the writers seems to only touch the subject with a 10 foot pole. I assume to be respectful to Barry/Gray/Organization, and to not potentially piss off the organization.

So they're not going to publicly share whatever happened, until it's clearly in the rear view and maybe not then.

CB's are divas like WR. Interceptions are flashy so I could see CB told to play tight and then playing off for hopes of pick.

The Jerry Gray having guys deviate from the scheme was reported by Rob Demovsky. I didn't see it mentioned by anyone else so maybe he could add information to it?
