I think we lack focus, more than discipline.

Dropped balls is from lack of focus, ask any receiver, they'll tell you the same thing.

To each his own, but I'd rather drop the ball a ton than get penalized ten times a game. If Bill Cowher were coach, we wouldn't have to worry about drops because we'd actually be running the football.

I don't know why everyone's saying we need an offensive minded coach. Why not go defense? Or how about somebody who actually WANTS to run the ball? Look at Dungy at Indianapolis. When he was in Tampa Bay, they weren't good enough. When he went to Indianapolis, their defense still sucked but Manning picked them up.

Other than Cowher, who would I take? You're going to hate me, but I'd take JON GRUDEN.

you're right...jon gruden...i DO hate you!!

i don't see mccarthy going anywhere at this point.

after watching the titans a few times this year, i honestly LOVE their mentality. the cowboys call em dirty - i call it football the way it's supposed to be played.

We need an O minded coach because we have Dom Capers as our DC. I thought that was pretty obvious. Dom has done a stellar job with turning this defense around. IMO we don't need to make any changes with that part of the coaching staff. However, our offense has a lot of talent and has not succeeded THIS year. Which is why I started this thread. I wanted to see, from everyone clamoring for McCarthy's head, who could replace McC. As of yet, I have not seen a suitable offensive, playcalling coach brought up whether it would be an OC or HC.

I don't know. I'm with Leopard on this one, I think.

Go and take a coach opposite of your strength. You keep your strong offense in place and the coach will squeeze everything out of your defense.

Dungy in Indianapolis, Gruden in Tampa Bay and Billick in Baltimore are a few that come to mind.

That said, you do have a good point with Capers turning this defense around.

I'd personally like Gruden. I liked him last year, as well. He's a hard guy, apparently, but players don't have to like their coach. Just respect him. Lombardi wasn't that likeable a guy, from what I've heared. Not from a player perspective, at least. But he did get the respect.

Gruden makes days from 6:00 to 21:00 to make his team perform. I'm sure that McCarthy puts in his time, as well, but those are some sick hours. When he goes somewhere, he lives for that team. And it shows on the sidelines, as well.

That said, there's no reason to go out and fire McCarthy at this point. There's not a single big named coach out there who's waiting to step in in week 6, having to install his entire gameplan and offense in just a week. That's why you go with an interim guy for the rest of the season.

And really, who do we have on the roster who's suitable for that? No one.

Mike's job is safe untill at least the end of the season.

I'm with Zero, Silentio and anyone else who isn't blaming a head coach for injuries and dropped balls.

Finley, Lee - gone in the first quarter. They were running with two rookie TEs. Driver - DRIVER - dropped four passes.

Through all that they were dominating, until Matthews went out. Then McNabb had just enough time to start winging it into a secondary that's also missing key pieces.

And spare me the "injuries are no excuse" screed - it's not an excuse, and it's not my place to make excuses for the Packers. The fact of the matter is that there isn't a team in the NFL with a roster that can withstand that kind of attrition. And for all that, they're still 3-2.

Yeah, I'm disappointed - any fan would be. But firing the HC in this instance makes no sense whatsoever.

I said it last year, I'll say it again.

If our quarterback goes down for any significant period of time due to piss-poor offensive line play, I want our coaches canned. Maybe our general manager too, though I'm not quite to that point yet.

McCarthy's gone? Is he injured, too?

The playcalling is not the problem. It's the execution. How many dropped passes today?

The only playcalling I have a problem with is the damned Hail Mary's before halftime. I absolutely hate that. If you're down by more than 2 TDs then sure, go ahead. Otherwise, run a friggin' draw play.

Don't get me wrong - I'm pissed we lost today, but I can't blame this on McCarthy.
