Had a lot of work the past few days, and I missed the discussion I started...
Anyway, read all the posts.
Criticisms ranging from not running the ball enough, to running it too much, to throwing too much on first, to running too much on first... streakiness with calls (not mixing it up), and, of course, predictability.
If I had my way, I'd run the ball 70% of the time, but we don't have the personnel to do it. Our line is subpar and our running backs are mediocre at best. You have to run to slow down the rush and keep the defense somewhat honest, and I think that's the only purpose it serves for us unfortunately.
Slants and screens - a few posters were clamoring for more of them. I would love to see more screens called. I see slant patterns run, but Rodgers doesn't like to throw them or they are just decoys. But I'd definitely like to see more screens with our personnel more like 2007 and replace our anemic run game with the short passing game.
Streakiness with playcalling. I've seen it, but it doesn't bother me if it's working. I'm a strong believer that if you find something that works, and they can't stop it, keep hammering it down their throats. Unfortunately, they stop it eventually - so maybe my instincts are wrong.
I liked Wade's Princess Bride analogy. What's most important is just being downright tougher than the opponent and beating them no matter what the decision.
After watching the Detroit game, I was fine with the playcalling, but quite dissappointed with the execution. <sarcastic>Hooray, we shut out Detroit without their best player and their third string QB</sarcastic> No, no, I'm happy we won, don't get me wrong (but pissed as hell those wretched Vikes won), but we left too too many points on the board. And penalties! My god the endless penalties! And sacks! Five sacks to a hapless Detroit! Maybe our mistakes will motivate for more improvement. Just hate seeing the same metal errors week after week. But I digress.
