After the Bengals re-signed him in the 2008 offseason, Marvin Lewis basically said "this is your last chance". He had no altercations after that, and played well as a #4 WR. So do we just ignore his "improvements" just because his career was cut short, and therefore spent the majority of his NFL career in legal troubles? I'm willing to bet that had he lived to end his career properly, he would've "stayed clean" until the end.

So we're supposed to ignore the circumstances under which he died because he said he was a changed man? This is a man with a criminal history of anger problems, violence, and substance abuse. He keeps a clean nose for 18 months because he's on his final chance with his employer. Then he dies during an argument with his fiancee when he jumps in the back of the truck she's trying to leave in and is thrown from the vehicle. What's more likely: he jumped in the truck for some noble attempt to stop her because she was impaired or he jumped in the truck because his anger got the better of him again?

I am floored that there seems to be no one here concerned that his fiancee may have been fleeing in fear for her life. The insinuations that she was a gold-digger and possibly murdered him are based on what? The fact that he died in apparently the same kind of situation that kept him in trouble throughout his adult life gets glossed over simply because he said he'd changed? It's not enough to say you've changed. Your actions have to bear it out.

it's pretty f'in sad that this guy died today & all that can be talked about is the bad he did in his life. lemme tell ya - i've done alot of things i'm not proud of in my life. i've never been arrested but should have been more than a few times. casting stones at someone we have absolutely NO intimate knowledge of is stupidity. i'm not trying to raise this man to sainthood but when a man's life is cut short, leaving 3 children behind that will never know their father, i find that tragic. whether he changed or not, his children could have learned from his mistakes and/or triumphs - that chance is now gone.

There's nothing preventing his children from learning from his life.

Having a history of being a good person does not in any way excuse you from one terrible act. Having a history of being a bad person does not damn your current actions no matter the circumstances. I will personally wait until the investigation is complete before I go around calling him a scumbag who was trying to murder his wife and deserved to die. And yes, you basically theorized that he was trying to murder his wife, because you said she was "afraid for her life."

Though I posted a response to WhiskeySam, it does not mean I care if he straightened out or not. A man just died, and I'm sorry for his family.

It is ridiculously naive to assume someone with a history of violence and anger problems was acting on the best intentions simply because he had recently claimed to be a changed man.

I don't remember him saying anything, to be honest. Everything I've read has been things his teammates and those who knew him have said. I'm not entrusting my life or safety (or anything) to him, so naivety has nothing to do with it. If he did in fact do something terrible leading up to his death, and his fiancee trusted his word prior to that, then she would be the naive one. I'm simply not rushing to a conclusion before I know the facts.

Updated from CBS :

Police spokeswoman Rosalyn Harrington said homicide detectives have been assigned to the case but had no further information.

Later Thursday, police released two 911 tapes. The first was from an unidentified woman who said she was following a yellow pickup truck.

"It's got a black man on it with no shirt on, and he's got his arm in a cast and black pants on," she told a dispatcher. "He's beating on the back of this truck window. ... I don't know if he's trying to break in or something. It just looks crazy. It's a girl driving it."

Just over a minute later, an unidentified man called 911 and said he saw a man "laying in the road" and "definitely unconscious."

WhiskeySam doesn't add any of the quotes of the comments stating Chris was not what the public perceived. Convenient. I'm not saying he was an angel, but from what I've read and heard about him, he was on the path of maturing the last year plus. Changing who you've been for most if not all of your life doesn't happen over night, and anyone doesn't comprehend that, well, I'll let you figure rest out.

Here's some words from the Head Coach, Marvin Lewis, who has been a no bull kind of guy with Chris and also said he wouldn't bring him back, then the owner did just that a year later.

Lewis said that in 2009, in particular, Henry had been making positive changes in his life.

"We had seen Chris expand this year as both a person and on the field," Lewis said. "He had grown and matured. We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to Chris' family and to everyone else who held him dear."

Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
