Something I didn't get around to saying in my earlier post (I was kind of annoyed when I wrote it) is that it is common in the NFL for a team to run up a big lead in the first half and then struggle to hold it in the second half. People often say that championship-caliber teams don't allow that to happen, but that's not true. Sometimes they do. The Vikings are one of the best teams in the league this year and they let the Packers sneak back into both of those games. But there never appeared to be much of a chance that the Packers would actually win. I felt the same way about the 49ers yesterday.

Well if McCarthey goes for it on 4th and 5 instead of trying a 50+ field goal, we have a shot at that game. That still pisses me off.

The Vikings look good, but they have things to exploit, like a really iffy secondary. I can't wait for them and New Orleans to battle. Arizona should give them fits as well.

Play not to lose mode kicks in to early in games. Should never be seen before the 4th qtr. We are going to need to put up more points now that Harris and Kamp are going to be out. Let use our offense to make the defenses life easier.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

The weakest part of this team is penalties and special teams coverage. If you go to the stats we are top ten in offense and defense and 32nd in penalties. Unacceptable for a coach in his 5th year.

I think we can absorb these injuries from yesterday, but we will be seeing more zone coverage, so then it becomes a tackling issue. No YAC. Pressure on the quarterback is a must from here on out.

We will have a tough time against the top three teams in our conference: Minn, NO, and Arizona because of the weapons they put on the field, but like I posted last week, the goal should be making the playoffs and then let it all hang out. We had major injuries this season. It isn't an excuse, rather reality.

Who knows, great character is built by adversity, not driving a cadillac all the way to the playoffs only to fall on your face. Win, lose, or draw; I'm still a Packer fan. Let's try a confidence in Mr. Capers and not throw the towel in just yet.

One of the things that people like to do to keep their minds off the shit in their lives is complain. Or, if you will, whine.

Unfortunately, the Packers aren't the Bears or Lions or Browns or Raiders. They're 6-4. So we have to stretch the "justification for complaint" envelope a bit.

Because the other shit in people's lives is still there. And, well, it's going to rub off.

Most of us probably don't expect perfection out of the Packers. But we still want some things to be perfect. And since we know the other shit aint ever going to be perfect, we take it out on things we're sufficiently ignorant and naive enough about to still believe in tooth fairies about. Like, e.g., the notion that GB might someday again be a dominant team.

So, okay, it's not rational.

But I'm still not satisfied. 6-4 doesn't impress me. Beating the crap out of the Detroits and the Clevelands doesn't impress me. I'm much more impressed than I was two weeks ago, yes. Yeah, we've got a shot at a wild card game, that's cool.

But no, I"m not satisfied. Because I"m not near convinced that the OL problems have been solved. Because I'm not near convinced that the pass rush problems have been solved. Because I'm not near convinced that the Packers' safeties are good enough. Because I'm not near convinced that the Packers have a good enough punter yet.

Because I'm a damn unreasonable son of a bitch. And I'm going to stay one until the fuckers start beating the crap out of playoff teams. Until they're the only team in the division that isn't in the hunt for a wild card because they've won the division by four games. Three years in a row. Until they start being a team that is competitive for home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Completely. Totally. Entirely. Unreasonable.

Damn straight.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

ok, y'all are just WRONG!! lol.

i'm actually NOT a mean biotch - just when it comes to competitive sports. i played a few in my time & those teams were successful because we had a coach who pushed us to the limit. whether we were up by 2 or 20, he wanted us to keep driving, fighting, & scoring. we were unbeaten several years in a row & i attribute it to our coaches fire.

Wade - I do enjoy the whipping of teams like Detroit and Cleveland, and I also expect it, as I expected us to beat the Niners by double digits.

I think my expectations are reasonable - 9-7 or 10-6. We were 6-10 last year.

I also think we should win one Playoff game. So for me, it's not because of something from my own life. It's the Packers meeting the "realistic" expectations I have for them. No, I'm not saying this is a Super Bowl or bust year. It's not. It's a turnaround year where we go from 6-10 to the Playoffs.

That said, we're going to have to be more aggressive. You don't let up when you still have another half to play. I watched the Buffalo Bills win a Playoff game being down 28-3 at halftime and shortly after halftime, the Oilers expanded the lead to 35-3. James Lofton and the Bills ended up coming back and winning in OT 41-38.

You really got to be careful in the NFL with leads. Rushing 3 is almost always stupid. So is playing not to lose.

Say what you will about Belichick - he makes sure his opponents are completely dead before he rests. It pisses off other teams but if I were to err, I'd err on the side of meaningless annihilation.

It's like having a zombie on the ground. Shoot the thing in the head before turning your back. We turned our backs and the zombie did one last final grab. It could have been fatal. Not acceptable.

EDIT: 4Pack - you posted at the same time I did. I agree with your coach.

I will not be a bit surprised if we all wind up choking on our turkey Thursday.

If the Lions knock us off, that turkey isn't the only thing that will have had a fork put into it.

We are hand-wringing over MM and who is bitching about what, etc.

The GD Lions are watching Rocky movies and absolutely planning to clean the Packers clock.

I saw that movie. We are like Apollo Creed when the trainer is trying to tell him he might want to take a look at this guy...

"I'll drop him in two." Or some such.

How's that work for him?

I think I'm going to make it my business to watch that Lions Browns game. Stafford looked inspired and - more troubling- inspirational.

The good news is that one, MM never seems to take an opponent lightly, and two, even some of the dumbest SOB's on our team will be hesitant to do so after that Tampa game, coupled with the injuries from yesterday. Sadly, it almost takes shit like that to wake some of these clowns from their friggin' arrogance/laissez faire attitude sometimes.

It's funny, but I think this was an excellent win for the Packers. Best win when you factor in performance plus the opponent. McCarthy got conservative in the 3rd quarter. GB should've came out and put it on SF one more time, but that's how he calls a game. The end resulted in 30 points and that's enough to win a football game in the NFL.

Defensively, GB backed off a little too much, but it's not like guys were out of position or just getting beat. They weren't. SF made big plays with their big time players. People underestimate just how good Michael Crabtree will be someday. Hands down rookie of the year if he signed his deal in training camp. I think he's that good. Vernon Davis has emerged and is going to the Pro Bowl this year. San Francisco has some talent. They don't have a QB who can sustain the type of play that they need going forward, but they have the skill players and the defense.

GB, by the way, carved that defense up. McCarthy called for the most part and excellent game in my view. Sometimes, people ask for too much.

beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔

Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : I'm not sure how to kill the draft order just yet so it's not so confusing.
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : *to be able
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Keep in mind, we do a draft reorder once all members locked in
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : You can have my 12th Rd for your 2nd round

Mucky Tundra (3-Aug) : Rock claims to have never eaten a cheese curd
Zero2Cool (3-Aug) : We did not leave.
Mucky Tundra (3-Aug) : Family Night! WE ARE SO BACK!
Mucky Tundra (2-Aug) : To this day, I'm still miffed about his 4 TD game against Dallas on Thanksgiving going to waste
Martha Careful (2-Aug) : Congratulations Sterling Sharpe. He was terrific and I loved watching him play.
beast (2-Aug) : I believe it's technically against the CBA rules, but Jerry just calls it a simple unofficial chat... and somehow gets away with it.
beast (2-Aug) : Jerry Jones is infamous for ̶n̶e̶g̶o̶t̶i̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ chatting with players one on one... and going around the agent.
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : Oo just saw a blurb saying that Dallas negotiated directly with Parsons and not through his agent
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : I assumed that both guys will get paid, just a matter of when or how we get there
Zero2Cool (1-Aug) : McLaurin nor Micah going anywhere. They will get money
Mucky Tundra (1-Aug) : the Synder years or do they take care of one of their own?
