That's it. He hasn't had any "big" runs that gets attention. He plows for 4 or 5 yards, then goes down. If he busted some long ones, he'd get noticed alot more.

I understand Grant can run the ball like a "battering ram" but that seems to be all he knows how to do. He also can't catch a pass for his life. I like the guy but I don't think he's the future at RB. He's just a serviceable option.

I do think we should keep Grant, but note that we need a change of pace back for our #2. I was hoping Jackson would be it but it's looking like he's not. Green I don't see us having for more than this season.

I'd love to have someone like Sprowles who is elusive and annoying for opposing Ds or even a guy like Kevin Faulk who catches 50 passes a year and sometimes lines up as a WR.

So far this year, Green has only caught 3 balls but 2 of them went for first downs. Why not more screens to Green? Keep Grant fresh.

The league average is 4.3 as of this week. While this is better than a lot of people think Grant has played, it's nothing to write home about.

Now, of course, you fall down on some of these, but he appears to do it on every single play. That's one of the reasons why we're not breaking a big one. When the cornerbacks can take a 'battering ram' down that easily, maybe he's not that much of a battering ram at all. Just my opinion, of course (for NSD).

And the YPC might be a little skewed, when you run it so little against good teams, but so often against bad ones. Great stat padding, but he's not as good as his 4.2 YPC leads to believe.

And yes, a good O-line would help him. At least he'd start out after 2 yards instead of -2 yards.

i think the problem with him is his consistency...and most of all, many times he goes down on the first contact.

Its not really surprising, hes been running hard all year when given the chance.

That's been my problem with Grant. I have no problem saying he doesn't always have a hole to run though... but when the OL does make him a hole... even a big hole it's one on one and he rarely seems to be able to get past guy.... which he did an amazing job of in the second half of 2007.

Also in the second half of 2007 he would run though arm tackle and now any arm tackle even the horrible looking ones will take him down.

Again I'm not placing the sole blame of lack of a better running game on him... just saying when he does get the chances from his OL (which isn't that often but when he does) he doesn't seem to make the most of them.

Yeah, I've been puzzled by how little playing time Jackson has gotten in the past two seasons. He usually looks pretty good to me when he's in there. The coaches must hate him for some reason.

That's another thing about Grant. He really isn't all that fast and he certainly doesn't have a great burst. I've seen more than a few times this season where he has a small window and just can't get that speed burst downhill or laterally to break into the next level. When he does break through to the next level he gets 15-20 yards downfield and gets caught from behind. I'm not complaining about this- it's not the type of back he is. It never really has been. I just don't think he's ever going to get the type of attention as some of the more elite backs because he doesn't have the type of breakaway speed to break big runs.

I'm not trying to say that this stat somehow vindicates our running game or Grant either. He certainly isn't terrible and our O-line isn't doing him any favors, but i'm still disappointed with him so far this season. That's my fault for writing off last season as a fluke though. I just thought that the ypc was surprising because I hadn't really noticed any kind of marked improvement in our running game lately that would warrant that stat getting bumped up.
