I got this notice in my email today.

Dear Supporter of Marijuana Law Reform,

The measure, HR 2943 , an "Act to Remove Federal Penalties for Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults," would eliminate federal penalties for the personal possession of up to 100 grams (three and one-half ounces) of cannabis and for the not-for-profit transfer of up to one ounce of pot - making the prosecutions of these offenses strictly a state matter.

Passage of this act would:

* Give states the option to explore legal alternatives to tax and regulate the adult use and distribution of cannabis free from federal interference.
* Provide state lawmakers the choice to maintain their current penalties for minor marijuana offenses/or eliminate them completely.

Under federal law , defendants found guilty of possessing small amounts of cannabis for their own personal use face up to one year imprisonment and a $1,000 fine.

NORML would like to thank Massachusetts Democrat Barney Frank, along with co-sponsors Ron Paul (R-TX); Maurice Hinchey (D-NY); Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA); and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), for reintroducing legislation to limit the federal government's authority to arrest and prosecute minor marijuana offenders.

With an average of 6000 new supporters joining the NORML cause per week, it is clear that this MOVEMENT has serious momentum. It is time to energize, organize, and LEGALIZE!

Tell Your Representative to Support H.R. 2943!

Stay Free and Keep Fighting,

I don't even smoke pot (yeah, surprised a lot of you). I just believe adults should have MORE choices, not less.

Like I've always said, if you want to get stoned with a full automatic AK-47 and a half a dozen hookers, hey, more power to you, as long as you don't operate a motorized vehicle.

I don't use pot either; but I do think people should be able to indulge if they are so inclined.

By the way, this bill wouldn't make pot "legal" in the United States. Individual states would still have to legalize it within their jurisdictions in order for one to bake up without fear. This bill would just get the federal government out of the drug-busting business (when it comes to pot, anyway), where it never should have been in the first place.

Cheesey, I don't smoke, but I don't think it should be illegal. I rarely drink, but I don't think that should be illegal either. Just because I don't use pot doesn't mean I think others shouldn't have that right.

I have never smoked pot in my life.

I think I'm going to look into purchasing a pound for Sunday's game.

Is that enough?

On the other hand, you're the one who spends 50,000 a month on food at that Giant store, right? (duck, run like hell from the K-Bar sweeping toward my head) :)

You just inadvertently cheered me up. Tomorrow is "expiration day"...

My wife is slipping badly, sad to say. The good news is that I have been drinking name-brand sodas, the bad news is that we "only" get $1.90 a gallon off this time. It will be the inaugural event at the new Giant gas station. .699 a gallon, 30 gallons. My "record" is .299 (or .279--I forget, precisely) a couple of months ago, but that was some serious wheeling and dealing.

On a side-note, we got those "scanner" things now. You go into the store, present your bonus card, one of the machines lights up. You grab that one (They give you these really nice cloth bags to put your groceries in)

You scan as you go. You put the shit in the bags, (it has the ability to "reverse" a purchase)

Check out takes 10 seconds or less. They have special lanes for that. It is the "honor" system, but they do periodically "audit" a customer.

The absolute best part of this and why I am telling you all about it? I am conveying this all second-hand. I used to do approximately 90% of the grocery shopping for this household.

My wife digs the system. She loves the scanners, the cloth bags, the quick check-out...all of it.

I don't have to grocery shop anymore, she goes like friggin' daily, lol...
