Funny thing is that the Democrats appear to have to clean up after the Republicans who get them into these wars (Eisenhower --> Kennedy/Johnson) (W. Bush --> Obama), or get involved because they really have no choice. (Wilson, FDR).

That said, If you're inheriting a war, the quickest way to end it would be by going with mass deployment. Otherwise it'll turn into a 10 year plan.

As for Obama's peace price, he appeared to be pretty surprised himself, as well. I guess he's getting it on intentions and recent diplomatic actions. I mean, you have to admit that he's been pretty active in that department already. Maybe it has a little to do with that US' international standings as well. You've surely become more popular around the world.

I think a part of why Obama won isn't because of what he's done but what he symbolises - a continued unification of global democracy, mutual cooperation and understanding. He's black. He's the American president. He's had to "rescue" the US, and by proxy most of the rest of the world, out of a global recession. If we weren't in contemporary 21st century cultural values we would have never thought that possible.

Does he deserve it? Yes and no. He's worked hard to get where he is, no doubt. Is there a better candidate? Possibly, I don't know. I don't think it's a reward for Obama as much as a reflection on how grown up the rest of the world is.

But politics is foreign to me, so maybe I'm just spouting bs.

Wilson had a choice to a certain extend. He tried to remain isolated from the war for a very long time. An English passenger ship with quite a lot Americans on it was sunk by Germany. Germany kept on falling back to unrestricted submarine warfare. Two of your war factories where sabotaged by the Germans. You where attacked on your homeland. It's miraclous that it took a pact by Mexico, Germany and Japan against you to get into this war.

I mean, they had to sink another 7 merchant ships before you entered the war actively.

In hindsight, I personally think that this was the first step into making you the biggest power in the world. Of course, the economy was booming before that and you where a force to be reckoned with, but you showed total dominance in that was. Coming in and sweeping away the Germans in no time.

What Obama got amounts to a "participation trophy".
Thats how low the "Nobel Prize" has fallen.

As far as other nominees, if none of them deserved it, DON'T GIVE THE DAMN AWARD OUT. There, was that so hard?
This just lowered the value of the award.
Might as well give me one, for all the fights i defused on here. (That was sarcasm, in case someone misunderstood)

And Al "the sky is falling, and i invented the internet" Gore? Come on.....they are gonna have to rename the award
"THE NOTRUTH PRIZE"
Who's gonna get it next? Michael Moore???

As far as I am aware, there is no requirement that the prize be awarded every year. In years in which there is no recipient the funds simply accumulate interest from their investments. Someone asked who else should have gotten the honor -- if that's become the standard on which the honor is handed out, they should save it for another year.

By the way, I was reading Liberal Intelligence magazine yesterday, and they're becoming increasingly disillusioned with Obama as well. He's proving himself to be the consummate moderate -- exactly as I predicted would happen before he was elected.

"Change we need"? Ha!

"CHANGE"......yup........that all i have in my pockets!
Truth is, Obama is a smooth talker. That got him into office. He talks nice.
I was always taught to be wary of smooth talkers.
He's probably a nice guy, but that hardly makes him capable of running the country.

Oh, I fully believe Obama is capable of running this country, but that's precisely because he's not a radical. He's actually shown deference to the wishes of Congress -- what a novel concept!

Bush, by contrast, was the closest thing to a tyrant this country has ever endured, trammeling on the prerogatives of Congress in a way that rivaled perhaps only Abraham Lincoln, who actually went to the extreme of suspending habeas corpus. (Yes, I believe that the administration of Abraham Lincoln was one of the worst things that ever happened to this nation. Not in ending slavery, of course, but in establishing the primacy of the federal government over the sovereignty of the states.) Had our Founding Fathers witnessed President Bush's reign, they would assuredly have lead a mob on the White House and strung him up from the nearest lamp post. They deliberately gave us a weak executive branch and would have been horrified to see how many powers Bush accumulated during his administration.

While I in no way agree with Obama's political ideology, I certainly respect the way he has shown due deference to Congress. It's a welcome relief after 8 years of utter disregard for the separation of powers.

The thing I hate about this is that people actually try to make this Obama's fault and it sheds him in a bad light when he had nothing to do with it. It's not like he asked for the award.

i don't agree with his even being nominated for it, much less winning it, btw.

Yes he could have. He could have politely. From an Article  - "Le Duc Tho, awarded the 1973 Nobel Peace Prize jointly with US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, is the only person who has declined the Nobel Peace Prize. They were both awarded the Prize for negotiating the Vietnam peace accord. Le Doc Tho said that he was not in a position to accept the Prize, citing the situation in Vietnam as his reason."

So it's been done before... and Obama could have said it's not right to accept it due to his lack of experience or unworthiness. That would have been probably more honorable then anything.

Zero2Cool (14h) : If only we had a topic to read about and discuss it. That's something new website must have!!!
dfosterf (14h) : Justice Musqueda over at Acme Packing put up an excellent synopsis of the Packers 1st round options this am
wpr (19-Apr) : 5 days
beast (18-Apr) : 6 days
wpr (17-Apr) : 7 days
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
