Jeff Fisher was on Dan Patrick show and he did confirm that the NFL was okay with it...

I think that is when Jeff Fisher said it isnt Jerry's fault

( Jeff is on a committee for the league)

And finally, for the text of the rule itself, we turn to PFT.

League officially announces "do over" rule
Posted by Mike Florio on August 28, 2009 10:31 AM ET

The NFL formally has announced the rule that will apply to the Cowboys video board in 2009.

Here's the official text of the new rule.

1. If a ball in play strikes a video board, guide wire, sky cam, or any other object, the ball will be dead immediately, and the down will be replayed at the previous spot.

2. If there is not an on-field ruling that the ball struck an object, the Replay Assistant is empowered to initiate a booth review, including if the event occurs prior to the two-minute warning. If, prior to the two-minute warning, no booth review is initiated by the Replay Assistant, a coach's challenge is permitted under the customary procedures for such a challenge.

3. In the event the down is replayed: (a) The game clock will be reset to the time remaining when the snap occurred. (b) All penalties will be disregarded, except for personal fouls which will be administered prior to replaying the down.

So there you have it. The board won't be moved during the 2009 season.

"We will continue to address the particular circumstances in Dallas, giving full consideration to the competitive, safety and fan experience issues involved," Commissioner Roger Goodell said in the news release. "The Cowboys have been fully cooperative as we have addressed this subject, and we will continue to work closely with the club on a longer term resolution."

We'll defer our opinions regarding this matter to the next set of PFTV segments, which we'll be shooting later today. In the interim, we invite PFT Planet to sound off.

Actually, you already have been. We hope we haven't interrupted your rhythm.

This will sure beat spiking the ball or throwing the ball out of bounds. QB's targeting that thing will be the new time out/escape from pressure.

He has a point. The ball will be declared dead at the moment it hits the screen, so it won't count as an incompletion. I wonder if they'll have to create a penalty for deliberate targeting of the display?

Geez------well, he DID put it 5 feet higher then required.
But you'd THINK he'd make it even higher, just in case. But the guy has never been one to let ANYONE tell him what to do.
Ego maniac.

I've never been against Jones on this issue. He may have an issue (being the Cowgirls owner and all), but this, was always a non-issue.

I still laugh at the people blaming Jones for this media circus. It's the same as those that call Favre the prima-dona when the media makes it a circus.

Forgot to mention that since the Cowgirls actually followed the NFL rule, that if it needs to be moved (which I think is pretty obvious.. but we'll find out this season), the NFL needs to pay for the move. Not Jerry Jones or the Cowgirls.

I'm really curious what all the following phrase entails:

moving the massive HD screen up . . . has been reported to make it inoperable

What does this mean? Is it connected to an extension cord that isn't long enough to allow it to be raised?

Overall, if Jerry Jones has complied with all pertinent NFL regulations, I don't see any reason for the display to be moved. It's incumbent upon punters to aim their kicks properly, not upon Jones to accommodate every punter who may not have enough skill to avoid the display.

I dunno. But here's my sthick..

NFL 'Preferential' Treatment of the Cowboys?

Our own suspicion is that the league bowed to Jerry Jones on this one because the league sensed that he was prepared to go to the mattresses in order to preserve his football cathedral as it was designed and envisioned. With acrimonious labor negotiations on the horizon, it likely made much more sense to keep Jones happy at a time when, if he'd been told to move his swanky new big-screen televisions, he would have been anything but.

Ok, there are times when I agree with Mike.. This is not one of them.

Are you kidding, Florio?! First off, you can't tell me that the league had NO clue of Jones' plans of his 'football cathedral' (I will say this.. It's awesomely huge). Am I wrong in thinking that there is a team of NFL officials that overlook and review teams' proposed design plans for new stadiums being built? Even if there isn't.. Ughh.. Mike? Yeah.. Jones still put his gigantitron above league standards.

My solution? The NFL records the height of every punt this season. Rewrite the rule as per those results. And then pay for any moving of said obstructions that happen to currently reside below the new height standards.

Goodell, you lose this fight. Give it up.

This I think is wrong. A punter is taught to get as much hang time as they can while getting the ball down field. That's why the league is letting them have do overs when they hit the screen.

That said, since Jerry Jones did follow the NFL regulations he shouldn't be held accountable for this. The NFL should have to pay for any adjustments necessary to move it up. What baffles me is what you quoted non, the fact that moving it up makes it inoperable. Is it on some retractable supports from the ceiling that cut off it's power source when it's moved up or what?

Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : Obviously he was a huge risk but getting a top 5 talent on the dline in the mid 20s is fortuitous
Mucky Tundra (10-Feb) : Jalen Carter falling into their lap certainly helps
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : And we could only wish to have this type of D
TheKanataThrilla (10-Feb) : It's not like Philly has had low draft picks, but has managed to get themselves a top notch pass rush. We spend so much draft capital of D
