Sure, and then let's trade LaFleur to the Vikings...and Rodgers to the Bears (sarcasm)

Tag and trade is probably what they should do. It depends on what happens with Rodgers, if Rodgers sticks around they likely can't keep Adams, unless Rodgers signs a new contract with a few void years.

In any case, they aren't trading Adams inside the division, for obvious reasons. Additionally, the Lions and Bears aren't even in the top 10 for cap space, and the Vikings have serious cap problems.

The 5 teams with the most cap space are all in the AFC: Dolphins, Jags, Bengals, Chargers, and Jets. If I was Adams, I would have my fingers crossed for the Bengals or Chargers, as both have good, young QBs.

Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

To outbid you, not to trade.

Under what I said, it seems a tag and trade doesn't really do the Packers many favors.

Firstly, I don't think they need to sign him to a contract extension to trade him. I think how it works is that he signs his franchise tag, which is effectively a 1 year contract, and then gets traded, with the entirety of that 1 year contract being transfered to the new team. The franchise tag isn't structured to push money into the future years, so there is no dead money to consider. Then, when the player has been traded, a new contract would be signed with the new team. Likely the player and team have already agreed to the contract in principal, but just need to sign.

So if they can get 2nd or even a 3rd for him, and have some control over where he's going, it's likely worth it. Assuming they aren't willing or able to give him a multi-year extension.
