6. GREEN BAY PACKERS
The perception of the Packers’ offensive line doesn’t always meet reality. Aaron Rodgers consistently holds onto the football with one of the longest average time to throws in the NFL. As PFF Data Scientist Timo Riske explored with offensive line survival rates, that significantly increases the chance for quarterback pressure and sacks. Their 22nd-ranked pressure rate allowed isn’t all that impressive, but their average time to allow a pressure of 2.62 seconds (best in the NFL) is much more so.

6th best OL! Pretty impressive. I know people have complained about Bakhtiari having a down year and everyone hates Turner but it's hard to expect much more from a OL.

I find the comments interesting as it fits into the discussion on the Rodgers Apologists vs Rodgers Antagonists thread too.

I just wish Rodgers would hit some quick passes. I have seen guys coming out of the backfield, where they are really open for a split second. But he seems to ignore them and waits to try for the long throw.
Some quick hitters would make the defense not tee off on Rodgers, and also open up the running game more.
Also take a lot of pressure off our O-line.

Fans just would like Rodgers to follow his reads, hit the open man (regardless of who it is) and move the sticks.
Pretty much everyone is tired of Rodgers holding onto the ball looking for the homerun, only to be sacked.

I think we’re lucky to have 2 of the best tackles in the NFL, and also lucky that Bulaga hasn’t missed any significant time this year. Good job by BG finding Veldheer (sp?) mid season as well. He filled in nicely against the lions.

I thought the 2018 Packers OL biggest problems were the NFL leading 67.54% pass rate (which the highest perectage since 2013) , meaning the entire NFL world (including the casual followers) knew the Packers were going to pass the ball extremely often and Rodgers holding onto the ball so dang long combination... so all pass rushers and teams knew they could just pin their ears back and figure out how to get their star pass rushers one on one match-ups against the OGs and they'd win.

So I predicted, simply dropping the pass rate would improve how their OL (especially the OGs) looked a hell of a lot. Packers dropped it down about 8% to 59.71% and the OGs looked a heck of a lot better (though different OLs, so hard to tell apples to apples, but I think Lane Taylor would have looked a lot better). That 59.71% is the 17th highest in the NFL this year, so quite average. Though those stats also might be a bit up, because against the Lions they passed it 65.12% of the time with banged up RBs.

At home the Packers passing % was down to 58.18% and on away games 61.14%.

Just watch Mike Spofford’s podcast. Apparently Billy Turner rolled his ankle against the Lions but toughed it out and stayed in the game. We only had 2 backups on the OL active for the game and both were already in. Had Turner come out of the game, we would’ve been in a situation where a DT would’ve had to play OG. Kudos to him for that. Apparently he only missed 2 snaps all season, which led the offense.

Good job Billy!

Considering some NFL guards are converted tight ends, is it possible that a tight end could step into the guard position for spot duty? I don't know if Green Bay has anyone large enough to accomplish such a feat, but it wouldn't surprise me if there were a few monsters in the league who were versatile enough to fill in on the line.

dfosterf (25-Jul) : It's my one day deal complaint dept. on shareholder meeting day
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Probably a homer access credential intimidation kinda thing
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Meathead "journalists" skip this, concentrating on operational revenue when convenient. They switch when net revenue is more favorable.
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Resulting in an actual drop of net revenue of 12.5%. She is from Minnesota. Just sayin'
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Any plans to hold Maureen Smith (CFO) accountable for a 95% drop in investment revenue?

dfosterf (25-Jul) : Possibly hit his head leaning into the glass protecting the food in the cafateria
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Maybe a low flying drone
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Did Savion Williams run into a goalpost or something?
Mucky Tundra (25-Jul) : also, no bueno when a guy starts getting concussions right off the bat in his career
Zero2Cool (25-Jul) : Concussion is worse. Banks probably vet off day via back booboo claim
Mucky Tundra (25-Jul) : @AndyHermanNFL Jordy Nelson out at camp today. No word if he’s in play for one of the two open roster spots ; )
