GREEN BAY -- Nick Collins doesn't want a new deal before reporting to the Green Bay Packers' offseason strength and conditioning program. But the Pro Bowl safety would at least like the team to start talking to him about one.

With no negotiations on the horizon, Collins is staying home in Florida and not attending the team's offseason workouts, which kicked off Monday, an NFL source said Thursday evening.

Collins, 25, was named an NFC starter at safety for the Pro Bowl last month after registering 99 tackles and seven interceptions last season, returning three of those INTs for touchdowns. He has played and started 63 of a possible 66 games during his four NFL seasons, with 11 career interceptions.

This really disappoints me. He had escalators in his contract, paying him over 3 million next year, which is so much higher than some first rounders received in '05 in their 5th year of the rookie contract.

The safety position is also very important in Capers's system. They have to make all the calls and be very familiar with the system and the terminology. This isn't good at all.

Lame. Maybe we can all take up a collection for him. ::roll:

I agree, lame, but I don't blame him. I also think its in his better interest to get his ass here and be with the team. He hasn't had any professional experience in a 3 - 4 and every rep will help him and the Packers.

Be upset you haven't heard talks about your contract, fine. Just don't hurt your career and potential because of it.

Hmmm I wonder if this had anything to do with why we where looking safety in FA?

I said it a couple weeks ago, it might be time to look at dealing Collins while his value is at a peak. While he has a ton of physical talent and unreal range, one has to question the mental aspect of the game and his continued nicked up status... he always seems to be playing with some sort of injury.

I mean honestly, he has seen how Thompson works, he would be in line to get a extended contract this season already, this nonsense can only hurt him.

Maybe wearing that Pro Bowl jersey got to him a little.

I hate that crap

If there is one thing I would like to change is that players can not re-do their deals they sign..

But in turn nfl makes those deals guaranteed

I know it wont happen and I knwo its flawed in some ways..

But I cant stand the fact players want new deals as soon as they start to get good

Just wonder if this is possibly fallout from re-signing Bush. I am NOT saying it is, but it is POSSIBLE that his re-signing is messing with everyone's self- perception of their RELATIVE worth to the Packers, especially in light of our cap room and lack of movement in free agency.

It's damned if you do and damned if you don't in the NFL, imo.

EDIT--

And z posted while I was writing. Friendly reminder-- I warned about fallout from selection to the pro-bowl while many felt we were slighted as a team... As I stated then, I wish everybody else's guys get recognized for the honor, not ours. This is an example of why I say that. I might not be fair, but neither is not honoring your contract. Again, imo.

Bush is no threat to Collins. I think that has very little to do with it. I think Collins going to the Pro Bowl and having such a good year last year he feels he should be paid immediately. I say get in line. First priority MUST be Greg Jennings, then others, such as Collins. If I were Collins I wouldn't be doing this. I'd be waiting for Jennings to get done, then I'd make my desire for a new contract known to the staff, not public, the staff.

Packers FS Nick Collins hit an escalator in his contract that increased his 2009 base salary from $530,000 to $3.045 million. Collins, entering a contract season, has been a starter since his rookie year and picked off seven passes in 2008 to earn his first Pro Bowl berth. [...]

I think dfoster means - not that collins position may be up for grabs but that the $ is a issue.

ie look at bush ... he got a nice chunk of change just by looking around. And then theres williams 'looking' around wanting more money.

The only guy that should be looking for more money is collins (and thats after his contract is done) - in reality it doesnt make sense that people can re-nig on their contract while its in effect?
Heck I'm in a contract at work can I just put up a stink and demand more money even thou my name is on the dotted line?

I dont get it.

I think Nick just wants a phone call from Ted Thompson to feel wanted on the team 😛 But seriously isn't it funny how players are looked upon. Just a few months ago everyone was saying how great Collins was and he needs to have his contract extended but now that he isn't showing up for strength and conditioning those same people are putting him down. Makes me wonder if you same people would say the same thing about Jennings if he does this?

To be totally honest i think Greg is going to try free agency and we will lose him. Something isn't right with whats going on he already refused to discuss his contract last season, it be could the smoke before the fire.

But c'mon guys stop flip flopping you are starting to get worse than Skip Bayless. Have faith Ted Thompson will take care of these guys.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Mucky Tundra (2h) : The Seattle Seahawks defeat the Chicago Bears 6-3. Jason Myers had 6 RBIs for Seattle while Cairo Santos had 3 RBI for Chicago
beast (3h) : Not nessarily, he might of been injured either way. He's playing about 50% of the games the last 4 years
Zero2Cool (10h) : If they'd been more patient with him, he'd be back already. Putting him out there vs Bears caused him to tweak it and here we are.
packerfanoutwest (10h) : well this is his last season with the PAck, book it
beast (11h) : Sounds like no Alexander (again), I'm wondering if his time with the Packers is done
Zero2Cool (18h) : Could ban beast and I still don't think anyone catches him.
Mucky Tundra (26-Dec) : Houston getting dog walked by Baltimore
packerfanoutwest (25-Dec) : Feliz Navidad!
Zero2Cool (25-Dec) : Merry Christmas!
beast (25-Dec) : Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
beast (24-Dec) : Sounds like no serious injuries from the Saints game and Jacobs and Watson should play in the Vikings game
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : both games Watson missed, Packers won
Martha Careful (24-Dec) : I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Oh I know about Jacobs, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to mimic Zero lol
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : Jacobs was just sat down, Watson re-injured that knee that kept him out 1 game earlier
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : I needed .14 that's. .14 points for the whole 4th quarter to win and go to the SB. Lol
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Jacobs gonna be OK???
Zero2Cool (24-Dec) : Watson gonna be OK???
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : No Jaire, but hopefully the front 7 destroys the line of scrimmage & forces Rattler into a few passes to McKinney.
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : minny could be #1 seed and the Lions #5 seed
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (23-Dec) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
beast (23-Dec) : Mucky, I thought the ad revenue went to the broadcasting companies or the NFL, at least not directly
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, I would guess ad revenue from more eyes watching tv
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I would think it would hurt the home team because people would have to cancel last minute maybe? i dunno
beast (23-Dec) : I agree that it's BS for fans planning on going to the game. But how does it bring in more money? I'm guessing indirectly?
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : bs on flexing the game....they do it for the $$league$$, not the hometown fans
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I see what you did there Mucky
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : dammit. 3:25pm
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Packers Vikings flexed to 3:35pm
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Upon receiving the news about Luke Musgrave, I immediately fell to the ground
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (23-Dec) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
