Try to focus on the context here and ignore the whole "report" thing, can ya? Could ya? Will ya?

There have been plenty of questions about the future of the Packers’ decision-making roles, considering the growing interest in director of football operations Eliot Wolf.

But the fact the Packers let Wolf and director of player personnel Brian Gutekunst interview for the 49ers vacant General Manager job at least shows a departure from previous years.

According to Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, some feelings were hurt when Packers G.M. Ted Thompson refused the Lions permission to interview Wolf last year because the Packers were still in the playoffs.

“Friends of Wolf” said the 34-year-old was disappointed at not getting a chance at the job which eventually went to Bob Quinn, and that his father, former Packers G.M. Ron Wolf “wasn’t pleased at all.”

Two months after he graduated from college he's working in a pro personnel dept. 12 years later he's #2 in command of an NFL franchise. I can understand his frustration, I also don't feel too sorry for him.

He's lucky his name isn't Elliot Johnson or Smith. I don't want him to leave, but admittedly I know nothing about him, like the rest of us. Just the fascination with the last name.

It's bullshit man. Ted did NOT have to bring him up through the ranks. Ted did that out of respect for Ron Wolf. Now it's Eliot's turn to show respect. Let the old man have his fill.

It suggests to me that the kid is a lightweight. He's too eager for the spotlight. Let him go if that's what he wants. He doesn't have the gravitas to get it done anyway if that's how impatient he is.

The fascination for me is getting rid of Ted Thompson.
I don't care if the next GM is named Wolf, Smith or Johnson, as long as he's not named Thompson.

yeah I'm sure he was disappointed with his PROMOTION with the Packers.

My god these writers are pathetic. There is really no story here so they will try to make one up.

Definitely a story here. Ted has created negative feelings with players and his underlings alike. Anyone remember Cullen Jenkins? Ted is a notorious terrible communicator and noted as cold. Not much of a shock considering how he shoves off some of his media responsibilities on the HC. Do you ever wonder why McGinn torches the guy? Think. Perhaps, Ted Thompson is an incredibly unlikable, cold and distant individual not only with Bob but everyone else. Is that even possible?

If I was Eliot or Brian I'd want to stick it to the man who was trying to hold me down. What is lost on those who are preaching the respect angle is other teams were courting Eliot. It is not Eliot's fault other teams want to interview him. To be told you can't interview for a job that is the goal of people in his shoes is upsetting. Just imagine that happened to you. The company you work for has promoted you and helped you grow but the company across the street wants to have you come in and run the show, something your company isn't going to let you do, and tells you you're forbidden to interview for a job with a better salary and title. My goodness the way this is failed to be personalized is horrifying to me.

Eliot and Brian should either be made the GM or allowed to go elsewhere. It's an oppressive system that doesn't allow this. Are you really for oppression based on feel good Packer nonsense?

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

Oh yeah poor Elliot. We don't want you to go somewhere else so here is a promotion and a raise if you will stay here.

Damn those packers are a bunch of dicks.

With that said, this all feels like Eliot and Brian being a little ungrateful. By all outward accounts they have been treated really well by the organization, routinely promoted, and I'd guess aren't making minimum wage.

These kids now adays, they want everything HANDED to them. Wolf is still a KID compared to other GM's. Yet the Packers have moved him up, and like was said already, treated him MORE then fairly.

I guess he could quit the Packers and move on if he's so quick to want a higher position, and take his chances. But did he sign a contract? If so, then why complain? He knew what he was getting into when he signed it, right?
If he would have a little more patience, I bet he would end up the GM here. He's still a youngster.
But hey....if he feels so slighted, let him move on! THEN he will see just how "easy" it is to be an NFL GM. Having people pick apart your every move, and if you don't hit a home run on ALL your picks, you're an idiot and treated like crap.
Yup.....let him see reality!
