I understand and agree with the point, however Kurt hasn't been wavering about retirement for nearly a half dozen years to anyone who would listen. Possibly because no one cared though lol

They probably would have cared/listened more if he had made it an annual event with press conference, tears and all or if he had actually played for a team with more of a national following right now.

You really do not understand why its called a hostage situation?

It is an odd term to use but in a way its the perfect word..

answer these

would the Jets do exactly the same thing if he plays or retires?

Meaning, would they still draft the same guys, or go after same free agents no matter what?

Or would they have to alter the draft or free agents depending on what Brett wants to do?

That is not a knock on Brett...Its reality.

I am pretty sure that they have to adjust their plan according to what Brett is going to do..

So if that statement is true, then in a way Brett is holding up their plan,or lack of a better word hostage.

Again that is not me saying he is an ass, its just how the situation has been 3 or 4 years...

That "hostage" situation is between Brett and the team, if the team is okay with it, then it should be okay for us as well. And believe it or not I do know what the word hostage means, I know that they need to know an answer in how they go about their business. As long as Brett decides in their time frame they are probably okay with it.

Ok Long seeing me and you like to butt heads i'll answer some of your questions and return them back at you from when people were saying Brett was holding the Pack hostage.

would the Packers do exactly the same thing if he plays or retires?

They drafted Rodgers in 2005 so yes they would have. They probably wouldn't have drafted the 2nd qb last year but big deal its a 3rd stringer. As far as FA no it wouldn't have seeing Ted Thompson don't do FA. Plus MM said they did not taylor the offense to Rodgers.

Brett was gone last year and what did Ted Thompson do in the free agent market with all the cap room?

So now can you explain to me how he was holding the packers hostage?

I think warner is playing the retirement card to try and get extra money in a contract but he better watch what he does sounds like Boldin is confident he won't be back in AZ.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Holding someone or team hostage by definition is purposefully withholding something from another in order to recieve compensation of sorts.

Favre never did that. His (and Warner's) decisions force teams to react, no different than if injury occured or whenever someone retires.

My whole point is what Favre did/ is doing (and Warner) is no different than all the other older players in the league. They all go through it at some point unless they are shown the door prematurely.

I knew I shouldnt have said hostage was the perfect word..Even tho I said it was odd, sometimes trying to convey an idea of a word never sinks in properly

Anyways...

DH

Why in the hell are you discussing the Packers?

This is about the Jets and their plans on if Brett is staying or going

If they want to get an idea of his thinking by the 20th, apparently they NEED and WANT to plan their actions for the draft and free agency based on his thoughts..

What is so wrong with that?

I dont agree with the injury part..

You do not nor can you plan on an injury and know exactly what your going to do before it happens.

Brett/Kurt and who ever else, your planning on something one way or the other...Teams can plan on the only 2 options that would happen..

So they need to know what way to turn when the time comes..And depending on those 2 plans the team has, it might be more beneficial to them to know ASAP

I was talking Packers because so many people said Brett was holding the Packers hostage those years. So i want to know why they classified it as holding them hostage when it never did make a difference if they knew or not. Now with the Jets they pretty much know Brett is done and i believe if he does go back they will release him seeing they are around 12 million over the cap and with releasing him that clears up 13 million. So to be honest i don't see the Jets that worried about the decision and btw back on topic i see Warner back in AZ after he gets his 2 year contract that he wants.

So many people said that? What about the other side where so many said that was not the case and that Brett deserves to take his time and make his decision? Ahh of course you won't mention those members from this website even though we've been pretty much down the middle with it.

And honestly, the more reports coming out about Brett and the things he did. As much as this sucks to say, but it's seeming more and more that he really likes the attention far more than he lets on. Heck, he even admitted that he watched a plethora of segments/shows dedicated on his behalf.

My personal feeling on it is that the media made too much out of it. He was under contract, he didn't say he was going to retire, so why keep asking him? That's where I think it would have been good for Brett to just respond to the retirement questions with "did I retire?, okay then". But that's not Brett, that's not why so many like him. He speaks his mind at that time. And at that time (like MANY players have said) of the off season many players feel like hanging it up and its not until weeks before Training Camp that they get that itch again.

I think its partially the media's fault for being poor ass journalists who can't find something else to write up and partially on Brett for wanting everyone talking about him. I'm bias FOR Brett and bias AGAINST the media so I'm obviously leaning that more fault lies onto the Media than Brett.

As for Kurt Warner. The mentioning of him holding the Cardinals hostage I think is ridiculous. I mean, they HAVE what they feel is their future QB already so how could he be holding them hostage? Much like the Packers had Rodgers for the last three years of Brett's Packers career. Brett retiring wouldn't have changed a whole heckuva lot I don't think. Maybe it steered some players away from signing with us, but that is not the case with the Cardinals.

Kurt Warner and Brett Favre ... hostage case. Non issue and i can't believe I'm talking about it. Damn, I'm freaking bored!
