From my understanding...

Sean is a Secondary coach and we want him as a Defensive Coordinator which is not a lateral move, it is moving up the ladder.

However, in the post season, the rules are tweaked a little and that move is considered a lateral move which is not allowed. If someone were to offer him a Head Coach position, then it would be allowed to contact him.

Basically, while the Eagles are in the playoffs, the Packers (or anyone else who wants him for anything other than a Head Coach or higher) can not talk to Sean. Personally, I through out Sean's name very early on and would like to see him with us. Yes, I am saying 'Go Cardinals!' 🙂

Actually, everything I read is now a DC is viewed on the same level as a position coach. I believe that was a recent change.

there were no other rumors out there about other teams being interested.

So who do we get as a d/c, it seems like nobody is ever happy. When people mention Nolan someone comes up and says his not good. When they mention Williams someone complains ... So who's good enough to be a d/c

Correct, which means that going from position coach to DC is a lateral move. Philadelphia can easily lock up McDermott.

Whether McDermott is the ideal candidate or not (I myself view this option with a strong measure of suspicion), how long are we willing to postpone bringing in our new defensive staff? The draft is only a few months away. I want Thompson, McCarthy, and the defensive staff to put their heads together as soon as possible. I want them all on the same page, so that we enter the draft with a unified strategy. Every day we delay hiring a quality candidate is one less day they have to get accustomed to each other.

Don't get me wrong. I'm NOT advocating that we rush through things for the sake of change. I'm only saying we shouldn't hold out for pipe dreams. If we have a qualified candidate waiting to be picked up, there's no point in waiting for the guy who may ultimately be locked down by the Eagles anyway.

It's conceivable that the reason Williams is floating the rumors of "strong interest" in the New Orleans job is simply that Green Bay hasn't expressed enough interest yet. It's like the girl who flirts with your best friend just to make you jealous -- to see where she truly stands with you.

Green Bay should act, one way or other. Either sign Williams or cut him loose.

LT, I think we should wait to lock the thread until after he's officially announced as the Broncos' DC. As of this point, the word that he's being hired by the Broncos is still technically itself a "rumor."

Citing a team source, NFL.com's Adam Schefter reports that ex-49ers head coach Mike Nolan is expected to be the Broncos' next defensive coordinator.

The Josh McDaniels era has begun with misinformation his mentor would be proud of. The Denver Post reported Dom Capers would replace Bob Slowik, but Schefter has never been wrong about the team he once covered. Nolan is choosing the Broncos over Green Bay, where he was considered the heavy favorite to land as defensive coordinator as recently as Friday.

From rotoworld.com

The National Football Post confirms that ex-49ers head coach Mike Nolan has officially been hired as the Broncos defensive coordinator.

Reports of Nolan's hiring surfaced early Monday morning, but other sources had Dom Capers as the favorite to land the position. The Broncos will likely switch to a 3-4 defense, which Nolan has run for the majority of his career.
