It's hard to read TOO much into the game. It seemed that once Aaron Rodgers got injured, the entire game changed. The Green Bay Packers by and large are Aaron Rodgers. If something is wrong with him, this team is rarely going to win, especially against a top quarterback. This defense is not going to carry the Packers and haven't since 2010, really. An exception here and there doesn't change the overall trend, either. Dom Capers just can't stack up against good quarterbacks. Not many can, but he certainly cannot.

But hey, if the fans don't mind mediocrity they can pull it off and make the playoffs and hope the other team doesn't show up .

The Packers ARE still an elite team - would you bet against them versus ANYBODY? Well, maybe Denver, but nobody else. The damn shame of it, though, is this team could be so much greater if Ted Thompson just did a better job of personnel once you get beyond oru world's greatest QB, our superstar first string RB, and our excellent top 2 or 3 WRs. Beyond that, it's mostly mediocrity. That doesn't mean the team is not elite, but it just could be so much greater yet with a little bit better general managership.

With that said, this loss was a painful one - but most teams lay an egg on occasion. If they have another outing like they did in the Superdome, then I will be officially worried. The bye came at the perfect time, as there are obviously things to work through and a couple of injured players that could use the extra week off.

I said it at the time in the chat: Mike doesn't need to resort to that kind of bullshit to win this game.

No big disappointment though. We all knew we were the better team, but we also all knew we'd go down there and shit ourselves. Set your watch by it.

It just means they are better than most of the teams. Being better than most of the teams does not mean you are an elite team. Being better than most teams means you will win more games than you lose, sometimes many more. It means that you will likely make the playoffs every year and it means that yeah, there is a chance that you will win it all. Being elite means you go into every game feeling that the other team has little to no chance to win. Sure, every team has a chance but your chances against elite teams are more like the "any given Sunday" type chance or the blind squirrel finding a nut chance.

IMO there is one elite team in the NFL right now and that is the Broncos. The cowboys may be close and may have a chance to get there tonight and there are a couple of other teams flirting with the designation. Then there are a few teams that are always close to being in the discussion simply because of one or two players who always seem to give them a chance (I'd put the Packers and Patriots and Saints in this group based on the historic play of Rodgers, Brady and Brees and maybe even the Chargers this year because of Rivers)

Not just picking on you Texas but it sure seems like I am hearing more and more comments like those once spouted by Uffda. If he is still lurking I wonder how long it will be before he comes back saying, I told you so.

They are above "average", but I don't see them as elite.
With our pourous defense, they will win some games because of our strong offense. But if the defense is called on to win a game, I wouldn't put money on them.

So are the Cowboys still "elite"?

My point: This elite talk in October is nonsense.

Me like Uffda? I am probably the biggest optimist in here, and not just in football hahahahaha. However, the elite status which we have is virtually all because of Aaron Rodgers - and to a lesser extent, Lacy and the Wideouts. It is absolutely IN SPITE OF substandard O-Line play and mediocre personnel on defense - Jerry f-ing Jones does a better job as a GM than Ted Thompson IMO.

Just the same, barring major injury to Aaron Rodgers, I STILL am expecting a victory in the Super Bowl.

I think the Broncos are a team that should beat any team they face. To me that is the definition of elite and right now they are the only team I would say that about. There are a lot of teams knocking at the door (that still includes the cowboys) but they have to show me a bit more before I would consider them elite.

I don't see what the time of year has to do with it. An elite team is an elite team. If you are one of those who considers a team elite based simply on final record or simply based on who wins the SB then yeah its too early.

If the Packers bring their "A" game they can compete with anyone. If they bring their "B" or worse game, then things probably won't be too pretty. Either way, the Packers are contenders, but not the best team in the league.
