Kampman and Jenkins will be on the Packers 2009 roster -- regardless of the system. This isn't necessarily an endorsement of their skills in a 3-4 system (although I think Jenkins' history at DT combined with his size and ability would make him effective as a 3-4 DE). Rather, it's a statement that the Packers will NOT get rid of two of their best defensive players.

Yes, I think Cullen Jenkins could be effective in a 3-4 as DE...He's the perfect size for it. Right around 300 pounds...

Adam Schefner is reporting that Mike Nolan will be in Green Bay on Thursday so this is getting closer.

I agree about Kampman and Jenkins and I think people look on paper and think of Cullen Jenkins as a 3-4 DE, but in reality I'm not sure if he's strong enough to do it. We'll see though.

None the less I think Green Bay could go with different packages.

It's tough, but workable. They could also get Kampman in at inside backer on the 3-4 at times and just tell him to fill this gap if it's a run or go get the QB if it's a pass. Sounds to easy, but a lot of teams do types of things like that.

I don't know when/if he did interview. Maybe they had their eye on him for awhile.
I think Moss was kept to not fire him while he's trying to get a different job.

One could argue that if it weren't for the Rooney Rule Mike Tomlin wouldn't be the HC in Pittsburgh. The team didn't even know who he was until just before the interview. Then he blew them away...

One counterexample does not a good rule make. I'm sure there had been black head coaches prior to the Rooney Rule. I doubt the Rule has increased the hiring of black coaches with statistical significance.

In my opinion, the Rooney Rule simply promotes window dressing and -- let's face it -- hypocrisy. It encourages teams to bring in black candidates for perfunctory interviews, whether or not they have any real intention of hiring them. If I were black, I'd consider it an insult to be brought in for an interview on the basis of my skin color. If I were the token Rooney Rule candidate, I'd probably turn down the position with derision. I'd want to earn the job on the basis of my merits.

Stop patronizing minority coaching candidates (and if we're honest with ourselves, we'll admit this is exactly what the Rule does). Let teams bring in whoever they want for interviews. If they want to be assholes and disqualify candidates based on their skin color alone, that's their own loss.
