Huh? Kicking out Crosby? I can't be bothered to read the entire thread right now, but from what I picked up this is about the missed clutch kicks.

Seriously, just last season he was some kind of saviour and now we want him gone? He's a great young kicker who can be a bit of target from time to time. He's just a secons season starter and still has some good numbers this season.

This must be the same people as the ones that wanted Hentrich and Longwell out of Green Bay.

I don't think anyone wanted Longwell or Hentrich out.
Wolf wouldn't pay Hentrich what he was worth (Wolf later said it was one of his biggest mistakes) and Longwell wanted to kick in a dome to pad his stats.
I can't remember any fans wanting those guys out.

Then I'm way off and I'll apologize for my post.

I don't know where I got the Hentrich part from, it had even been said here that Ron Wolf just let him go when he wanted more money.

I did hear that the fans wanted to get rid of Longwell though, when his kicking percentage went from a consistent 85%+ to a 75%. Must've been some bad info then. ^^

After the game, Crosby was asked why he missed what would have been the game winning FG, his response:
"When I thought about it, I knew that if I made the kick, we would knock the Bears out of the playoffs. That would mean my kick would put the Vikings into the playoffs, and I just couldn't force myself to do that. So I kicked it low, and hoped one of the Bears would block it."

Are you serious he said that ? Lmfao !!!

Actually i thought he got a call on his team issued cell phone from Ted Thompson and was told to kick it low. Ted Thompson said dammit we will teach those vikings for messing with us we won't help them get in the playoffs.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

My first impression was clearly that the line got blown up and it wasn't Crosby's fault. However, I can't say if it would have been blocked if he had kicked it like the made field goal earlier, or if it would have been good if it hadn't been blocked. I also can't see a reason McCarthy would arbitrarily throw a player under the bus in place of other players.

100% agreed...

So much for Mike McCarthy not wanting to single out players in a presser eh.. I wish he would start this on guys that are mistake prone each week.

wasn't it in another thread that MM said that he gave rodgers run/pass option and it was rodgers that ran 3 running plays ?

I wanted Longwell to go. He was getting shorter and shorter on kickoffs, his FG% wasn't great, and any time he missed a kick he blamed the holder or something else. He NEVER took any responsibility.

Heh, you can fire an entire team for having a crappy season? I don't think that Mason Crosby is a really big problem here. Yes, a couple of missed clutch kicks. Big deal. He is still young, he has a great leg and a great future. He was put into a lot more situations like that than he needed to be by poor play of the rest of the team.

Why should Crosby be held to higher standards than the rest of the lot who had much worse seasons and more mistakes? I didn't see that last kick, but I gather it was just a mess from the entire Field Goal Unit. Let's just fire the whole team, right? (Though sometimes it sounds like a really good idea ....)

/Keep in mind that my kid's a kicker from a family of kickers. I will ALMOST always defend the kicker 😛

No kicker in the history of the NFL would have made that. Almost every player on the Bears team was in the backfield. I suppose he could have kicked it straight up into the air.

I still think he kicked it too low, but the reality is that there was a razor-thin margin of error on that play and we simply came out on the wrong side of that line.

Couldn't have put it better--the blocking cut too-much into his margin.

Man did you see him put a leg into that 69 yard FG attempt.
It looked like he hit the crossbar.
I bet he would have made it in better weather.
