Oh, wpr, I totally agree. Completely. I was not trying to slight him, just looking at his comprehensive value to the team by being a contributor both on D and STs. He made an INT in the Superbowl!!! The guy had never been a stalwart defender in the secondary, whether it be at S or CB, but he has indeed been serviceable when called upon in a backup role. He is a veteran, and indeed a star on STs.

He made a bunch of gaffes at CB his first few seasons in GB, but seems to have gotten better. My meaning was that he never broke through to win a starting position back there. For whatever reason.

Well then ... no more dumb penalties from him and no more playing secondary ;)
then he can stay

to go along with what you said wpr - I started to pipe down about bush as last season got underway; seeing him gun it down to the 1-10 yardline to down some balls down there.

I suggest you take a look again at the Cardinal game last week, one of the guys who did his job very well was Jarret Bush.

He's never going to be a lockdown guy, but he is still better than a rookie with "all the potential in the world" running around not knowing what his assignment is.

Im' gonna make one statement, if all the veteran players get let go and the only VET left standing is Aaron Rodgers, then The Packers are in real trouble.

How many damn years do we have to go through watching a bunch of kids try to learn to play the game as it effects the outcome of the season as a whole.

Teams Need Veteran Leadership to be successful.

Tha Packers have already lost too much from last year.

It depends how you look at it. There would be still a lot of Vet Leadership, Sitton, Lang, James Jones, Nelson, Brad Jones, A.J. Hawk, Tramon Williams, Morgan Burnett, Clay, Raji, Pickett, even Cobb is taking the Leadership role now.

Bush is expendable. So is Kuhn. But I'd take a lot at keeping Bush with these young corners we have coming on. Only way I see us keeping him is if no safteys show up to make the team behind the 3 locks at Saftey. But that's just my opinion.

At this point there is no one who can do Bush's job with his reliability. At least no one that we as fans have seen. Someone may be doing it in practice but we don't have all the access that Mike and Uncle Ted have.

I could not agree more wpr. Bush has been a complete rock for us on STs, and that unit is super important.

I hope Kuhn is gone,

Or we at least find a way to hold on to Amosa, maybe dump a TE

At the end of the day it's special teams ace vs pass protection.

Kuhn can certainly play special teams, and he's probably our best pass pro back on the team.

Honestly if Kuhn just plays his natural FB position this year, he could be better. Not worrying about running the ball, just as a lead blocker. Imo if we wanna be better at running the ball, we need to retain him for at least this year. He knows the offense like the back of his hand to, he is more valuable as a fullback to this team than most think.

My take on Bush is he has been healthy all his career, always making plays on ST's, and he can tackle. And he's ok as a slot/dime corner.

He can also be easily replaced on special teams, but the tough thing when deciding to cut him is his experience.

I bet we keep them both. If one of them gets cut though, it's gonna be a tough cut.

I wouldn't be surprised to see DJ Williams and Quarless gone. Neither have shown very much from scrimmage in any games and neither is as good on special teams as Taylor and Kuhn are.

I don't have any list. But, ISTM...

When one is speculating about the final cuts, you need to distinguish between those on the roster who are going to be on the game day roster and those "of sufficient potential" that they can fill in on the game day roster because of injuries to someone in the top 45.

Bush is not in the latter group. He is what he is at this point. He's not a bad DB, but he's nothing special. He's going to make the team, if he makes the team, because he can perform on special teams to a very high level. But the team isn't going to keep a special teamer unless he's active-on-game-day quality. Bush will make the team if Mike McCarthy sees him as in the 45, not just in the 53.

So my question is this: who are the 8 likely inactives in week 1? And who is Bush competing against for that 45th spot.?

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
