Without Desmond Bishop, who the hell is going to overcome the deficiencies of A.J. Hawk?

Bishop is easily the most physical defensive player the Packers have. Releasing him would be foolish. Trading him ... that's a different story.

This is a bummer, but an even bigger bummer to me is seeing Hawk and Jones at the top of our depth chart at ILB.

Desmond Bishop probably will not have too much trouble finding a new home. But things would have been much easier for him if he was cut loose much earlier in the offseason.

The Green Bay Packers are expected to part ways with the inside linebacker unless there is an unexpected contract restructure. Otherwise, the team will release him if he is not traded, something that is unlikely given his contract status. Jason Wilde of ESPN Wisconsin first reported the news.

Bishop missed the entire 2012 season with a ruptured hamstring tendon suffered in a preseason game. He has yet to take part in the team’s OTA’s so the Packers have apparently not deemed him fully healthy yet.

Bishop became expendable when Brad Jones flourished in his place. Jones was rewarded with an $11.75 million, three-year contract this offseason.

Bishop’s career took off in 2010 and 2011 but his base salary of $3.464 million this season made him expendable. We’ll see what shakes out for him.

I've read that the Packers are going to be going to the 3-3-5 alignment more, meaning only one inside linebacker on the field for about 65% of the plays. Seems to me, since Brad Jones is the best coverage guy, the choice came down to Hawk over Bishop. I think they are all mediocre so dumping Bishop isn't going to keep me up nights, but I will always remember his game saving tackle on Desean Jackson against the Eagles in 2010.

When is Ted Thompson going to realize his stupidity?

I always read the comments at the end of the articles that are posted, NEVER and I mean NEVER, has there been any support for A.J. Hawk and very little support for Brad Jones!!!!!

According to most fans these 2 have no business being on The Packers roster let alone the fact that they are currently THE STARTERS for 2013!!!!

Ted Thompsons inability to bring in talented ILBr's and his stubbornness to OVERPAY the ones who do hang around is just another reason The Packers will continue to come up short in their goal to bring The Lombardi Trophy back to Green Bay.

...........FIRE TED THOMPSON............

buckeyepackfan (57m) : I forgot, they corrected the call a week later. Lol btw HAPPY BIRTHDAY dhazer!
buckeyepackfan (58m) : That brings up the question, why wasn't Nixon down by contact? I think that was the point Kanata was making.

beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
